"The game that made the genesis a good system."

Golden Ax, this is perhaps one of my first Sega Genesis game. This game brought many memories. Unlike the other reviews that i have written for other old Genesis games, this one I actually remember very well. The story line and every thing about the game is good. Music, game play, and etc. This game even has some replay value to it. Anyways the story line is this you choose one of the three heroes( a warrior, a female warrior, or dwarf) to save the world from the evil Death Addar and his minions.

Game play: The game game play is simple. All you do is kill all the bad guys, save the villagers, beat each boss at the end of the stage and make it to Death Addar. The game moves from left to right. In the game there are thieves and these thieves are helpful since they give you either magic or food. Each person has a different magic amount that they can hold. The dwarf holds the least, the the warrior holds a normal amount and the female warrior holds the most magic. Their status in power and defense are also different. The dwarf does the most damage and has good defense but his range is the shortest(recommended for new players), the warrior has normal attack and defense and he use a sword with gives him a longer range then the dwarf. The female warrior has probably the same range as the warrior since she also uses a sword. However she has the weakest power and defense. Important note about the game: In the game it doesn't matter how many magic pellets you have once you use it all of it is gone. The amount that each person holds just determines how much damage you do with it.

Music: The music has a medieval feel to it.

Controls:The controls for this game is very easy. For an ABC type controller the controls are: A button is for magic, the B button is for attacking, and the C button is for jumping. You also use the D-pad and the start button.

Length:The length of the game determines which difficulty you set it on. On easy you don't get the full game. On normal or hard you get to go to all seven stages. On easy you only get to level three. If you play the fill game it will take you about and hour or two to beat it since it's not very long.

Replay value: Earlier I mentioned that there is replay value in the game, (most of you out there are probably thinking: impossible a Sega Genesis game can't have much replay value since you can't unlock things.) Well that part is true. There are no unlock able items in the game, however they are two modes besides story mode. They are survival mode and versus mode. As the name suggests you either fight a person or the computer depending whether you choose versus or survival.

End note:Overall I think that game is worth getting only if you are a collector or a person who wants to see what games were like before they went 3-D. What ever the reason I think all Sega Genesis owners should one in their collection since it's not expensive and it's also a good game.
