"Log-jumping, rope-swinging fun!"
The game that started it all. The barrage of games where you have to jump over logs, holes, and alligators. There have been so many of these, I have lost count.
GAMEPLAY 9/10
The gameplay is pretty much the whole game. The concept of jumping and swinging will have you hooked for hours. The control is a little weak. Using a round disc instead of a control bad can mess you up. Luckily, that doesn't get in your way very much. Most of the action is forward and backward. if you are stupid enough, or smart enough to go in a hole, you will have to press 'up.' The enemies include logs and snakes. Not much to be scared of. Snakes and fire stay stationary the whole time. There are also lakes and tar pits, both of which can disappear and reappear.
STORY 10/10
Not really existent. You can make up any kind of story you want. Harry can be running from the CIA. He could be in a race across the jungle. The jungle that repeats over and over.
AUDIO 9/10
Not much to hear either. You can hear yourself jumping. Your can hear the agonizing scream of pain when you get hurt. You hear the Tarzan-esque scream when Harry daringly swings across giant, deadly tar pits. The Intellivoice, a device that enables voices, does not work with Pitfall. If it did, the possibilities would be endless, and crazy!
GRAPHICS 9/10
For the Intellivision, the graphics are okay. Harry is well-designed with 3d things and 600-color BMP. Not really, but it would be cool. The logs are brown and round. What were you expecting? Water is blue and tar is black. It all makes sense to me now! Compared to PS2, N64, Gamecube, etc., I don't care. It's a fun happy game that makes everything smile.
REPLAY VALUE 10/10
You won't stop playing this game. Ever. You will keep jumping and swinging for hours and hours. You can compete for best score with your friends, enemies, teachers, parents, the undead, the cloud people, or, the cloud man himself, God. Just make sure you don't explode from playing too much. I have a few times, and it is not fun. Make sure you wait at least 30 minutes after eating to playing.
BUY/RENT
Buy. You can't rent anywhere, except at a rental store disguised as a store on the sidewalk in a big city. Buying is enough anyway. HAVE FUN EVERYONE!!!! I DID!!!
