Shark! Shark!

Review by Mewtwo X9

"An addicting game that'll have you playing for hours."

Introduction:

In 1982 Mattel released the game Shark! Shark!. Shark! Shark! is a game where you start off as a little fish in the ocean and you swim around trying to eat fish smaller than you so you can grow in size. But watch out! Some times a shark will swim by and you can either avoid him or take the risk and swim around back of him and chomp at his tail to get him to leave. Shark! Shark! is really fun with 2 players because you and a friend can go head to head and see who survives the longest. This is one of those games where if you get good at it, it will have you playing for hours on end.

Review:

Graphics - (8/10)
The graphics aren't bad. They're about average for an Intellivision game. There's really not much to show graphic-wise. The entire game is spent underwater and all you see is the different sea creatures swim around. Visually it's kind of boring, but I never really enjoyed the look of underwater games much.

Sound - (9/10)
The sound is really cute and funny. No music however. When playing Shark! Shark! it's pretty much silent until you either eat something or something happens. For example, when the shark comes around it'll start playing a kind of slow Jaws type music in the back ground. I didn't have much of a problem with the sound though.

Controls - (8/10)
The controls were definitely slow at times. You'll notice that when you start swimming at full speed it takes a second or so for your fish to stop swimming. This can get annoying because my fish would never stop in time and I would always end up over shooting and running into either a shark or a bigger fish and get eaten up myself. You'll learn though to stop early. So when you eventually get the controls down over-shooting your target shouldn't be a problem.

Story - (7/10)
The story is kind of weak. It's a game played more for competition rather than story. Seeing this I'm going to give it a 7 just because it was made for this purpose. Although you could say it has a story because you start off as a little fish and you're trying to survive the dangers of the underwater world by eating others to survive and grow bigger.

Replay Value - (9/10)
You'll be playing this game over and over again. It is one of the most funnest, addicting games on the system.

Worth the Money?
Yes definitely. They even have this game on some of those Intellivision Lives! games for the PS1 and PS2 systems. But if you can find it for the Intellivision it would definitely be worth it.

This ends my review. Thanks for reading!
