***** I. VERSION HISTORY *****
*****************************************************************************
1.0 (2/06)- I always shoot for complete FAQs on my first runthrough, so it's
gonna have everything that you might want to know immediately.
1.01 (7/06)- I can't believe I spelt it "barrell" and only caught it now...
wow. Also fixed a glitch with the submarine- I was claiming you
can't barrel roll- you can. All the more reason to love it!

***** II. STAR FOX (Not LAND Fox...) *****
*****************************************************************************
Those of us who played the original StarFox loved it; it was a great game idea
and it was tons of fun... unless you were 4 when you played, and the blockiness
was just a mess of color to your eyes and you didn't last long and you died
very quick and then you didn't play again for years... Yea, if that was the case
then you're probably sitting here wondering if you should FAQ star fox 64; I
know I was.
Anyway, as was sort of hinted at above, the problem with Star Fox was that the
graphics capability of the SNES just didn't work for Star Fox. You could still
enjoy the game, but it was never visually pleasing.
Well, rereleased on the N64 (with some changes, don't worry!), the game now
has the graphics to keep up with the game, and it's a true masterpiece!
However, it's not the easiest game in the world to beat, and that's where I come
in. The game is simple to learn and fairly easy to master- this guide's here to
help you along the way in case you're stuck.
I'm going to hit on everything that you want to know (and everything you DON'T
want to know, but you can always skip ahead), and make you that much more
capable of fully enjoying Star Fox 64!

*****************************************************************************
***** III. CONTROLS *****
*****************************************************************************
I suppose you could try playing Star Fox without knowing the controls, but then
what would happen? You'd drift forward and run into a wall, thereby blowing up!
...or maybe someone would shoot you. I don't know which, and I'll have to
remember to try it to see what kills you first.
At any rate, a lack of knowing the controls = death, so let's learn the
controls! First, the basics. (1 button controls)
Analog Stick- your analog stick moves you around, funniest thing. You'll always
fly forward no matter what, so don't worry about that. Move the
stick forward and your craft will fly... guesses? DOWN- it's
inverted controls. Likewise, pressing the stick backward will move
it UP.
Control Pad- As is true of most games, because you use the analog stick, the
control pad is useless. Screw that! Don't touch it at all! Not that
it's infected or anything- you just don't have a purpose for it.
A Button- Fire your standard laser; you have an unlimited supply of said lasers.
Hold down the A button to charge your laser. Your charged laser locks
onto enemies and also has splash damage, allowing you to kill many
enemies at once.
B Button- Launches a bomb. Bombs lock onto targets, do tremendous damage, and
have a large splash damage range. It's an upgraded form of your
charged laser. However, you don't have many, so don't waste them!
C-up Button- This changes your camera angle from far, to windshield view (you
can see the windshield and the bars, it's ugly), to bumper view.
If you had an old TV until recently and miss having bars on your
screen, use the windshield view. Otherwise, pick between bumper and
far. Both are fairly useful, as bumper allows for better accuracy
while far view allows for better dodging.
Personally, I use far, because you have plenty of lasers, which
means you don't need to be all that accurate anyway.
C-down Button- You apply the brakes and slow down. Note that you do not stop.
One of the gauges in the upper-right corner of your screen is the
brake meter. It's normally blue, but as you apply the brakes it
turns red. When the red reaches full, you have to wait for it to
empty before using the brakes again.
Use the break to avoid nasty things right in front of you (things
such as falling debris come to mind)
C-right Button- When prompted, ROB64 (your spaceship robot) will call you. Press
C-right to respond. He'll either send supplies, or the Great Fox
will provide some backup.
C-left Button- Applies the boost. Boost works just like the brakes, but instead
it speeds you up! So, you can either brake to wait for hazards to
pass, or you can boost to get past them before they happen. Your
call, really.
Z Button- Turns your aircraft to the left. That is, your right wing will tilt
upward. It allows you to turn left faster in all-range mode (see
section ViA for more details). Press Z twice to do a barrel roll.
R Button- Turns your aircraft to the right. That is, your left wing will tilt
upward. It allows you to turn right faster in all-range mode (see
section ViA for more details). Press R twice to do a barrel roll.
L Button- It does NOTHING. The whole left side of the controller is pointless
for Star Fox. Of course, I wouldn't suggest cutting your controller in
half, but maybe it'd be easier for you to use, not having all the
useless buttons in the way... >_> I wouldn't recommend it; I think it
would probably end poorly, and I imagine buying a new N64 controller
is rather hard these days.
Start Button- Pauses the game, just like every other Nintendo game created. Wow,
that was a brainbuster!
*************************************************
Now, for some more complicated moves! By complicated, I mean it takes TWO
buttons to use them.
Flip- By pressing down on the control stick while pressing C-left, Fox will
do a quick loop. It's great for dealing with enemies on your tail
(specifically Star Wolf) as they'll fly under you and quickly be fodder
under your guns.
U-turn- By pressing down on the control stick while pressing C-DOWN, Fox will
flip upwards and fly in the opposite direction that he had previously
faced. This can only be used in all-range mode, unfortunately. No
spontaneously fleeing from the battle in 3D scroll mode. However, it
makes up for that by being incredibly useful when it comes to dealing
with someone who just flew past you. U-turn and quickly get back on
their tail.
Barrel Roll- The infamous quote "Do a Barrel Roll!" came from Peppy in StarFox
64. Barrel rolling is an excellent skill to utilize, especially
since it doesn't use energy like boosting and braking, so you can
constantly be barrel rolling. Do a barrel roll by pressing the R
or Z button twice.
"Well, why barrel roll?"
Barrel rolling allows you to delfect enemy lasers. All normal enemy
attacks will do NO DAMAGE if they hit you while you're in a barrel roll.
Be careful, though- barrel rolls have a half-second recovery time in
which you can easily take several hits if you time the roll wrong.

***** IV. ITEMS *****
*****************************************************************************
If there's one thing that the movie Armageddon taught us (besides the fact that
the only science used in Hollywood is Scientology), it's that space has loads
of crap floating around, and although in the case of Armageddon that crap is
floating rocks and Ben Affleck, this game has several items that you'll want
to pick up if you see them. They will appear when:
A) ROB64 calls you to notify you that he's sending supplies. Such items will
appear in a little box that you must shoot to open.
B) Kill an enemy; sometimes they drop items.
C) Some items just suspend in space, with no prompt to make them appear
D) Performing certain feats to make them randomly appear
Silver Rings
**************
These are probably the most abundant items in the game, and they're also the
least useful item to get. That's not saying much, though- they're quite useful.
By snagging a silver ring, you regenerate some of your shields. Simple health
item, really.
Gold Rings
************
Gold is better than silver 99% of the time, and this game holds true to the
standard. Gold rings don't heal you like silver rings. You probably can see/
have seen the bar on your screen where gold rings appear. When you collect three
gold rings, they will increase the life of Arwing by a large amount. This health
boost lasts until the level ends. If you collect a second triplet of golden
rings in the level, you'll get a free life.
Now, rings carry over into the next level, and so here's a bit of strategy to
use: Get the health upgrade, get two more rings, and then don't get any more,
unless you know for a fact that there are three more in the level.
The extra lives are nice, but you get plenty from your kill bonuses, while being
able to double your health very early in the level will decrease your chances
for even needing to use said lives.
Silver Stars
**************
Not to be confused with military honors, silver stars are similar to silver
rings, only star shaped! They're a silver ring on steroids, as they fill your
health a ton.
You won't see them very often (and if you take the lower level routes you may
never see them at all), but they are incredible for your health. The problem is
that generally speaking you NEEDED that extra health because you're in some
very hard battle.
Bombs
*******
Bombs are what they sound like; giant red Bs floating in space, they give you
another bomb to shoot. Bombs do incredible amounts of damage, and much more
importantly have splash damage to allow you to hit several enemies at once.
They're ideal for bosses, but I will point out some occasions where it will
behoove you to use bombs outside of the boss.
Laser Upgrade
***************
Not sure how else to describe it... it's a floating L with wings that you pick
up. Doing so ups the power of your laser.
Your laser has three power levels.
1) Single
2) Dual
3) Hyper
Dual lasers are twice as powerful as single, and hyper are exponentially more
powerful than dual, although I unfortunately don't know how much.
Getting to hyper laser is an incredible benefit, and the fact that you go back
down to single every time you die can be a rather large hindrance if you die
on a harder level.
Wing Repair
*************
If you run into objects (or get hit by certain bosses) you can lose your wing
or wings. When this happens, your ship is not as well controlled. Suddenly it's
far more difficult to maneuver around obstacles as well as being more difficult
to dodge the enemies. Plus, you lose your lasers.
So, you should grab a wing repair! They'll only appear when your wings have
taken a beating. They will instantly repair your wings, although you won't have
your lasers restored. Most commonly they'll be given to you by ROB, but on
occasion an enemy will let you snag one.
Mini Arwing
*************
These are extra lives that you can pick up. They're incredibly rare, so don't
expect to see many of them. However, they do exist, so keep your eyes peeled!
Checkpoint
*************
You'll know you're here when you see a big circle that says "CHECKPOINT" in the
middle. Besides creating a return point from which you will start every time
that you die for the remainder of the level, it also heals a very large chunk
of your health. Both reasons are GOOD, so grab it whenever it shows itself.

***** V. THE CHARACTERS *****
*****************************************************************************
VA. THE GOOD GUYS
********************************************
*************
*Fox McCloud*
*************
Son of James McCloud and the protagonist of the story. James was supposedly
killed by Andross many years ago, although no one really knows WHAT happened
between them, only that James was never seen again and that Andross is still
lurking. Anyway, Fox is a mercenary hired by Corneria to stop Andross from
taking over the Lylatt system.
You control Fox in this game. You and your band of Arwing pilots will navigate
the levels together fearlessly, battling Andross and his henchman across the
entire system.
*************
*Slippy Toad*
*************
By far the most interesting of the four characters, Slippy is in fact a man. How
do I know this? Well, despite having the most feminine voice of any man I've
ever met, Slippy is referred to as a he in Aquas.
Slippy works with Fox through the game. He handles ships of all kinds. He's
responsible for gearing Fox with the landmaster and the blue marine, as well as
telling you the HP of all of the bosses that you encounter.
************
*Peppy Hare*
************
Peppy is a butt-ugly hare, but a hare he remains. He flew with your father
back when he battled Andross, and he's now your pseudo mentor.
He tosses advice to you periodically as needed, but he is an overall pointless
character otherwise. After your first runthrough you will get tired of him
very quickly, because he's really good about killing himself at inopportune
moments.
****************
*Falco Lombardi*
****************
I find it amusing that Falco's last name is Lombardi, while Slippy Toad and
Peppy Hare are... yeah.
Anyway, Falco's the dogfighter of the group, and is the only one who can hold
his own in battle. Granted, you'll have to save his neck from time to time, but
in dogfights he can actually damage your opponenets while managing to avoid
them. Still can't hold a candle to you, though.
******
*Bill*
******
A childhood friend of Fox, Bill comes to Fox's aid if you travel through Katina.
He provides you with some much needed backup in a couple of the levels, notably
Solar. He and Fox reminisce a little, and since he can't die, he's a nice fifth
fighter to have alongside you because you don't have to cover him.
******
*Katt*
******
Katt is a rogue fighter from what I can tell. She'll appear when you travel to
Zoness and will aid you in Macbeth/ hinder you in Sector Z (skip to section ViN
to understand what I mean by THAT.) She too is invincible, and on a few levels
she's quite invaluable.
She and Falco flirt mercilessly in the levels they're in together, but it's
never said if they ever hit it off.
****************
*General Pepper*
****************
Leader of the Cornerian Army, he's been holding his ground against Andross but
now has hired Fox and co. to take Andross down for him... and then he complains
about the bill at the end! Pfft.
*******
*ROB64*
*******
Your ship, Great Fox, is manned by a robot known as ROB64. ROB will sometimes
send supplies your way, and in the case of space battles he will sometimes come
to your aid by firing into enemy lines.
***************
*James McCloud*
***************
Father of Fox McCloud, he vanished after the bout with Andross back in the day.
Presumed dead, he was one of the greatest starfighters and his spirit lives on
in his son, Fox.

VB. THE BAD GUYS
*************************************************
*********
*ANDROSS*
*********
The big cheese. The head honcho. The boss. He's your target, nestled in his
quiet home of Venom. It's your job to kill him, pure and simple. Do that, and
you win!
***********
*Star Wolf*
***********
Each one of your team members has a counterpart. Fox's counterpart is Star Wolf.
No one ever seems to explain where they know each other from, but it is
understood that they've clashed before. They are in the direct hiring of Andross
and will cross your paths several times.
Now, as for Wolf himself- he's the toughest of the four characters and he will
relentlessly persue Fox in the dogfight.
**************
*Pigma Dengar*
**************
An old friend of Peppy and James, Pigma sold them both out to Andross. Peppy
managed to escape... James wasn't so lucky. Now, he flies with Star Wolf.
He's a decent pilot and he berates Peppy as he follows him, trying to shoot him
down.
********
*Andrew*
********
He's a goat, isn't he? He's also Andross's nephew... Andross is a goat? o_O
Anyway, Andrew fights opposite of Slippy. He doesn't have any relation to Slippy
really, he just doesn't have anyone else to pick on.
******
*Leon*
******
A self proclaimed master of starships, he persues Falco. I imagine they are
rivals to be the best pilot in the system, although Fox and Wolf outpilot
them both. Eh... they needed to give someone to Falco.
He's a decent pilot and will bother Falco.

***** VI. THE WALKTHROUGH *****
*****************************************************************************
This is the complete walkthrough for Star Fox 64. It's broken up by level, as
shown by the table of contents. Each walkthrough is thorough and says everything
that I found pertinent about the levels. I also include boss strategies within
the walkthrough, as well as later on in the guide for easier reference.
NOTE: There's not much to spoil in this game, so I'm not going to leave out
anything, even if it might be considered a spoiler of some kind. You have been
duly warned.
VIa. Training (basics, tips and tricks)
*****************************************
First, I must explain some of the basics to this game since they really don't
fit anywhere else.
******************
*PICKING THE PATH*
******************
The Lylatt system is broken up into 15 different planets. Each planet is a
level of its own. The system is set up like so:
O Stage 7- Venom
/ \
O O Stage 6- Area 6, Bolse
/ \ / \
O O O Stage 5- Sector Z, Macbeth, Titania
| \ | / |
O O O Stage 4- Zoness, Solar, Sector X
| \ | / |
O O O Stage 3- Aquas, Katina, Fortuna
\ / \ /
O O Stage 2- Sector Y, Meteo
\ /
O Stage 1- Corneria
Corneria's first and Venom's last. Each O is a planet, and each
slash represents a possible path. Since you can only visit 7 planets per game,
you can see that there are many possibilities for level routes. Of course, some
levels lend themselves to going certain ways, but such obstacles can be
overcome.
HOWEVER, here's the rule. The left side is "hard", the middle is "medium", and
the right side is "easy". If you play through without meeting standards that I
will point out to you while you're playing, you will take the easy route the
entire way. However, if you manage to get onto the medium/hard routes, you are
allowed to take the route one level easier as well (hard can take medium, medium
easy).
Each section of the walkthrough is divided by which stage they are. If you look
at the table of contents, they are clearly grouped by stage.

/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \
**************
*YOUR VEHICLE*
**************
While you use the Arwing for a majority of the game, Slippy manages to provide
you with a couple of alternative vehicles.
Landmaster
************
The landmaster is a tank that can be used on Titania and Macbeth... I hate it.
It has no laser upgrades and therefore is severely weakened. It cannot dodge
as well because it cannot fly... yeah, it's subpar. However, you have to cope
with it (unfortunately).
The controls are basically the same. However, where a double Z and double R used
to perform a barrel roll, you now spin the landmaster either left (with Z) or
right (with R). Also, by pressing both Z and R at once, the landmaster can float
for a short period of time.
It's nothing special, but try to make the best of it anyway.
Blue Marine
*************
Much Better! The blue marine uses the same lasers as Arwing and has homing
torpedoes! An infinite amount! Too bad you only use it in one level, because
this thing is killer!
Controls are very basic. You CAN Barrel Roll, but no looping. Just basic boosts
and brakes. Fairly simple to use. You'll do battle on Aquas with it, and Aquas
is deemed a hard level, so "Don't get too cocky, Star Fox."

********************
*THINGS TO REMEMBER*
********************
Protect your teammates- Slippy in particular proves very handy against bosses,
and you cannot get medals if you don't keep your teammates alive.
Use Bombs wisely- Don't feel the need to hoard them- you get lots of them
through the course of the game. However, don't be a spendthrift, because they're
nice to have around in a pinch, and there aren't enough for you to just go
trigger happy.
Yes, I know Peppy says that- I'm just reinforcing it.
Fly smart- Most of the time, enemies come from the top, bottom or the sides.
Therefore, it's a good idea to stay away from those areas. Stay out of harms
way whenever you can, and keep a steady stream of lasers raining on your foes.
When you see a group, charge a shot and kill them, or use a bomb.
Grab the items whenever possible, but don't jeapordize your health in the
process, especially if it might lead to losing a wing, which is a BAD THING TO
DO.
Learn to Use the reset/death tricks- If you're aiming for medals or want
something in particular, dying is (oddly) an amazing tool. If you "Restart
Level", you can do it faster, but if you've already gotten the checkpoint you
lose said checkpoint. Dying, on the other hand, while taking some time, insures
that you will keep yourself at the checkpoint.
Learn to use both tools to make getting medals that much less stressful.
Oh, and here's a great rule of thumb- if it's moving, make it stop. Kill it.
If you have any more concerns, I kindly point you to training in-game. That
ought to be enough to get you going!

***** VIB. CORNERIA *****
*****************************************************************************
The game begins! OH JOY, OH RAPTURE!
____________________________________________________________________________
Difficulty: Easy
Points needed for Medal: 150
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Your team flies in low off the shore, and you're immediately sent into battle.
Take down the enemies with your laser and pick up anything they might drop.
As Peppy hollers at Slippy, you get your first rescue encounter. Get used to
them- they happen often. Shoot the guy following Slippy. Best way to do it is
to lock on with your charged shot. With Slippy saved, you fly through the
canyon, shooting things down along the way and enter Corneria city.
Corneria City is being ravaged by Andross. Destroy everything that you come
across, be it with lasers or with a charged shot. If you want, you can fly low,
but there's no advantage to it. Shoot the red robot who's knocking the pillar
over for six points all of its own. However, it'd also not be a bad idea to grab
the item under the pillar he's knocking over. To do that, boost under it and
snag the item. You have to pick between the points and the item. If you want
medals, kill him. If this is your first time, grab the item.
Now, Peppy will do some more hollering and tell you to use the brake. So, use
it! Or, use your loop. Either way, the enemies behind you will now be in front,
so shoot 'em down. Continue on, killing enemies and either destroying the robots
or grabbing the loot under the buildings they knock over. You'll see a low
building with a set of large double doors ahead. Shoot the doors to get some
items. Just beyond that, CHECKPOINT! The level's half over!
Now, it's time for one of the most difficult rescues in the game. Falco flies
off WAY ahead of you and asks you to kill the guys following him. You have to
boost and charge your laser. Once its charged, fire on the guys following him.
Hope you get it done in time, because if Falco gets knocked down, your entire
game plan gets changed.
IF FALCO FALLS
****************
Continue on, killing robots as they appear and grabbing upgrades as you find
them. Try flying through the arches on the water, as they hold some pretty good
items.
You'll leave the water and go back to land while Peppy gets chased by an
enemy, so save him befor he falls. After you kill off the enemies (watch out
for the bombs that some drop, as they pack a punch and have a mean range):
"Enemy Robot dead ahead." and it's time for your first boss fight.
BOSS: GRANGA
**************
He's a gigantic robot that basically cannot move. It's really quite simple. Fly
towards him and fire at his legs repeatedly. His legs will explode and he will
fall down. To kill him, you have to shoot the green backpack (it's flashing- you
cannot miss it). Shoot it until he dies. If you can't get that right, well...
Best of luck, sir!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IF FALCO DOES NOT FALL
************************
Now, if you managed to save Falco (it's not all that hard, but I know that it's
still tough for me), keep flying like last time. When you get to the arches on
the water, fly under every one. Be careful of the guys "skating" on the water,
because they're likely to get in your way more than once. As you're going
through the arches, Falco will compliment your flying, and once you have gone
through all of them he'll tell you to follow him. Instead of flying straight,
you'll follow the big ship that flew overhead through a waterfall.
You and Falco team up and take out all of the nasty birds that are dropping
bombs, and you'll fly over water again.
"Incoming Enemy from the Rear. Drop Altitude"- Boss time!
BOSS: ATTACK CARRIER
**********************
Fans of Star Fox will remember this bad guy! He's even easier than last time
with the superior controls. As Peppy says, aim for the open spots. He deploys
units at you from three holes. While he is deploying enemies, fire upon those
holes. You'll destroy the enemies that he's sending as well as damage him. After
you do a certain amount of damage to each opening, a part of his ship will fall
off.
Once all three parts fall off, you can actually damage him. He will fly away
and then fly forward again throwing beams at you- everything he's got.
...:Yawn:. If you have hyper lasers, you'll kill him before he even opens fire.
He has no weak spot anymore. Just shoot him until he goes down.
***** VIC. METEO *****
*****************************************************************************
If you ran into Granga, you'll be heading this way. In addition to dealing with
the enemies, you get to contend with large meteors flying across the screen
at intervals. They won't blindside you or anything, but they are prevalent
obstacles nonetheless.
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
The meteors are initially your only problem, but as you fly through, but since
you can destroy them, keep yourself occupied. Falco and Peppy weave through
the asteroids, so don't kill them by accident. Brown ones can be destroyed,
while grey ones cannot. Fly through the grey rings to pick up a laser
upgrade.
Peppy makes the clichéd comment about the lack of enemies, which obviously cues
an entire swarm of them. However, they're not very strong. This is an excellent
time to drop a bomb if you're shooting for a medal. If points don't matter, you
don't NEED to kill them all.
From here, keep flying through the field- you'll even go INTO some of the
asteroids. Beware of the snake enemies, as you can only kill them by hitting
their heads, and they take up LOTS of room if you don't kill them. However, a
quick charged shot eliminates them with no trouble. You'll come upon a group of
items stacked. Fly through the bottom one and immediately do a flip- you'll
snag all three! Fly through the meteor ring past it for another laser upgrade.
By now you *should* have hyper, so you probably don't have much use for this.
From here, boost when they tell you, brake when they tell you. Kill enemies as
you need. Peppy will get himself into trouble and will need rescuing.Save him
and get his undying thanks. Beware the enemies from behind and avoid
them with brakes. There are floating gun turrets as well, so watch their erratic
crossfire. Also, be sure to watch out for the enemies that crossgrid, because
the exhaust lines they leave behind are like little walls, and you take damage
for hitting them. CHECKPOINT!
Now it's Slippy's turn to get into trouble. Just as you get past the checkpoint
he's tailed by three enemies with a fair amount of health. I suggest just
chucking a bomb to take them out quickly and save yourself any trouble.
You'll begin seeing flashing blue rings. Fly through one to send your ship
spinning. Your goal, should you choose to accept it, is to go through EVERY
blue ring. Doing so will activate the warp and take you to a magical place of
rainbow colors and tons of asteroids. If you DO go this way, enjoy yourself
and kill as many enemies as you can so you can grab the medal- should be easy.
However, I don't expect you to go through it on your first try, so for those
of us who don't: There are some more enemies that leave those exhaust walls for
you to dodge. There are also clusters of enemies, and by destroying them with
a charged laser you get FIFTEEN points. Also, watch out for some of the
asteroids, which you can oddly lock onto... why? Because they're enemies that
are hidden within the asteroids. They're invincible until you manage to get
them to open up.
From there, not much to it.. Boss time!
BOSS: METEO CRUSHER
**********************
This guy has multiple parts to him because he's a devious little bastard that
likes to pretend that he's been defeated before showing you he's lying (although
if Slippy's still alive, you know he's not dead because his health bar isn't
empty yet... Way to go, Nintendo!)
First, he'll have a spinning plate facing you. Don't hit the plate, as doing so
will cause it to absorb the attack. After it has absorbed enough of your laser
it will fire it all back and do some damage to you (reminds me of the N64 Zelda:
Ocarina of Time and TwinRova.) So, instead you must shoot the yellow things that
present themselves to you. There are four- one on each side of the body
underneath the spinning plate.
Once you destroy them, the plate flies off and you get to fight the ship itself.
It pulses electricity at you, so be ready for it. Between his attacks there will
be a large diamond that appears on the ship (once again in yellow... gotta love
the obvious weak spot). Shoot the diamond until he admits defeat.
However, like I said, if his health isn't empty, he's not done yet. Final stage
of this guy deals with him firing two rays of purple circle at you while you
shoot some MORE yellow squares. After all of it, he finally goes down in a
blaze!
***** VID. SECTOR Y *****
*****************************************************************************
While the game considers it a hard level, you really shouldn't have any
problems finishing it.
Difficulty: Hard (Medium, really)
How to Get Here: Beat Attack Carrier
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
To reach Sector Y, you had to beat the Attack Carrier on Corneria, which you
reached by saving Falco, and such. You did it? Awesome, then let's get started.
You and your team are there to back up the squadron in what appears to be the
only space battle that exists in this game. Watch the enemies for a little bit
and then attack the blue ones that come your way. You'll reach a ship with two
turbine holes (or something like that) from which tight clusters of enemies
come crawling out. Your best bet is to use a bomb, because if you don't kill
at least most of them you'll be verbally abused by Falco, and you don't need
that, do you?
As you approach the place where these enemies came from, you can go up or down.
Doesn't matter which way, as both are riddled with enemies for you to kill, and
naturally you're supposed to shoot them all.
Now those Gundam-Like ships actually enter battle with you. They're no match
for you, but don't get too cocky because they can pack a punch if they manage
to hit you. Do good battle with them and don't go dying on me.
Peppy will tell you that someone's behind you, so brake/loop like always. You'll
come to another split in the level, only this time the paths are somewhat
different.
The Upper Path first pits you against a large number of ships that you can
either try to take down or not, depending on your style. Slippy, being the
valiant little frog, will try to go in by himself and will put himself into
peril. Save him once again. Deal with some more Gundam ships and
fly through the ships. Kill, pick up items.. lalala.
Now, the Lower Path is quite similiar- you fight a fleet of smaller ships and
a fleet of Gundams. Kill off the bastards, but "be careful, he's quick" with
one of them- you can always use a lock-on bomb if you want to kill him that
badly.
REMEMBER- "Do A Barrel Roll!"; it'll save your life.
Once you're back on the non-split path, continue killing fleets of ships, keep
killing Gundams, and be sure to grab the package from ROB. Time for the boss!
BOSS: MECH TROOPER (x2) and SHOGUN
**************************************
First you get to kill the mech troopers, which are just tougher Gundams. This
fight will be in all-range mode, and it may be somewhat frustrating because of
how small they are. However, your party can actually kill these two off by
themselves.
For Shogun, it's a much more powerful, much more obnoxious Gundam. This guy
has a shield to absorb your lasers, lots of HP, and loves to move a lot. Since
he's as small as you, if not smaller, finding him on your screen is nearly
impossible. Make FULL use of your radar in this battle.
Shogun's a total jerk- he degrades you through the whole fight and then
becomes whiny when you hit him. The good news is that he gets cocky enough to
land back on the ship where he came from and not move, making him a ridiculously
easy target to pick off. So, if you can't kill him in a dogfight, wait for that
instead. He's not hard, just takes a long time.
You start off by killing the enemies. If you need a medal, just kill 10 of
them. You kill enemies for a little while, when Slippy says, "Why are the
ships coming out of the base?"
A bomb has been placed, and you have a time limit for the rest of the level.
From there, you'll get some cutscene and... cue Star Wolf! BOSS TIME!
BOSS: STAR WOLF, PIGMA, LEON, ANDREW
**************************************
It's a 4 vs. 4 dogfight, and each pilot has an opponent:
Star Wolf will mercilessly hound Star Fox
Leon will tail Falco
Pigma berates Peppy
Andrew attacks Slippy
Assuming you have all four party members, that's how it will run down. HOWEVER,
once it's no longer 4v4, this pattern goes away, with the exception of Star
Wolf, who refuses to tail anyone but you.
As it's the first Star Wolf battle, it's not meant to be hard. However, here's
the number one rule for SW battles to make things easier- when they arrive and
start making elaborate speeches, press start. You bypass the cinematic scene
and get more time to set yourself up as they fly down instead of starting with
them on your tail.
First, take care of Star Wolf. Using a flip on him will confuse him and leave
him completely vulnerable to your lasers. Take him down quickly and painlessly
to give your full attention to helping your party members.
There's no real strategy, just remember to cut turns by holding Z and R so that
you can follow them better. With all four down, the planet is saved, and such.
YAY!
You find yourself in a MASSIVE dogfight which is led by Fox's old pal, Bill.
Bill commands the Bulldog and Husky units (Doing dogfights with those units...
Oh, Nintendo- such a wiley bunch, you are). Kill some enemies (which are black)
while trying not to kill your own people. You'll know if its a good guy when
Bill complains. There's no penalty, but it's a waste of your time.
Eventually the enemy mothership will appear on your radar and on your screen in
the far corner, and it will slowly drift to center.
BOSS: SAUCERER
****************
It's not much of a boss- it has four hatches. Each hatch releases more enemies
onto the battlefield until you destroy it. Make passes under the ship, shooting
the hatches. If they close, then just dogfight some more until Bill informs you
that they're open again.
Once all four hathces explode, the core of the ship will appear. Make a couple
of passes while shooting the core. It should go down no problem and you'll be
First thing to remember- you have infinite torpedoes, so abuse them. To start
you get to deal with some large squids that you automatically lock on to. Take
'em down with your 'pedoes. See the clams? Kill them, too. Star Fish? DIE! KILL
THEM ALL! HAHAHA!
Erm.. anyway, backing up a bit, you'll pass under some arches. Keep a steady
stream of torpedoes going to grab some items and to kill some baddies. You'll
see a bigger squid, but so what? DIE! Falco suggests lighting your way with a
torpedo, so if you need light, you know what to do! You'll meet those starfish
I mentioned earlier, and you need to take them out, because they're Kamikaze and
can rip your sub apart in their explosions.
Some bigger fish begin to appear, but don't feel intimidated, because they all
go down under the power of the 'pedo. Just keep firing the torpedos (and don't
forget your lasers) until they either die or you pass them by.
You enter some quaint ruins where you should shoot and shoot and shoot and make
sweet love... OK, no sweet love, but shooting anyway. Enemies will hurl their
bodies onto your ship, so shoot them down. When you get assaulted by the lasers,
don't forget- "Do a barrel roll!" (If you havent' figured it out yet, I do
enjoy that term and don't hesistate to use it) CHECKPOINT!
You'll start seeing some monstrous angler fish, but they're nothing a grizzled
veteran can't handle. Watch for the one that comes from behind (Slippy will
clue you in) and just keep on slaughtering while praying PETA doesn't have your
address.
The home stretch before the boss sucks. I mean, it really sucks. It's full of
starfish and falling boulders. There are also electric eel fields that you must
dodge. Kill the starfish, watch out for boulders (boosting and braking, sirs).
BOSS: BACOON
**************
A clam with a problem, he's not that hard to beat.
He'll open up and expose his weakspot for you to see- it's a bright green eye.
That's your goal, so now you just have to expose it. First, fire torpedoes at
the top of the clam and take out the cannons on the top of its shell. Once they
die, start using LASERS (Ha, lasers!) on the two fleshy pillars. When they
turn irridescent, fire a torpedo to collapse them. The shell breaks in half.
Now you can properly attack the actual boss. His eye is covered by a fleshy
exterior that you must destroy. So, fire lasers at the lump until the eyeball
appears. Fire a torpedo into the eye to damage it. Do that until he dies.
Of course, there's a small complication- with each successive hit, Bacoon begins
to spew more and more pearls at you, which while being generally harmless are
REALLY good about stopping the torpedo from hitting the eye.
SO, take out the pearl spewers. Launching some torpedoes at them will destroy
them, and while it's not permanent, it lasts long enough for you to get a
torpedo in without any worry about the pearls stopping it.
Rinse and repeat until Bacoon is no more.
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
This is a level full of large enemy squadrons. When you see a large group, use
a charged laser to take them all out at once. When you see a REALLY large group,
use a bomb. You shouldn't have any difficulties taking everyone out.
At first, you're flying through a base, and you get to deal with enemy clusters.
As I said, use laser blasts and bombs at your discretion. Wish there was more
to say about this, but there's really not... when you find the mines, you can
either shoot them all (stupid idea), bomb them, or fly past them with boost.
Now, you're supposed to be at a base, but as Falco kindly points out, the base
has been wiped out already. There is plenty of debris floating around for you to
contend with, so either weave around it or go into one of the top corners so you
can effectively avoid 80-90% of it automatically. CHECKPOINT!
A large wall presents itself, and a hole opens up, exposing a flying arm...
Hint, hint? That's one hell of a large arm... proportion that thing! However,
don't get too caught up in it, because Peppy starts to get attacked, again.
Save him, again. The guy is a walking disaster waiting to happen, always putting
himself in harm's way.
The path splits up ahead: Left, or Right.
IF YOU GO LEFT, you will be bombarded by enemy fire. Dodge, Barrel roll,
whatever- just stay out of the stream. You'll come across more walls, but they
don't open quite as nicely as the first one. You'll need to utilize your brakes
and your boost to get through.
You now come upon the second portal in this game. This one leads to the fabled
Sector Z made famous by Super Smash Bros. To get into this portal, you must
open them. See the grates up ahead? Shoot them MANY MANY times (you need a quick
finger to get it- I STILL despise doing it), and it will grow red and then give
way for you. You must open all four to get into the portal, all while dealing
with the level around you.
However, if you came from Katina (As I mentioned before, you can choose to go to
levels of a lower difficulty), then Bill will be at your side helping you get
through. Once through, fight the enemies and reap the rewards of an easy medal
and a trip to Sector Z (which is the most difficult level to get to).
If you DON'T get the portal (understandable), then continue down the pathway
and beware of the obstacles in your way. You're to the merging point of the
paths.
IF YOU GO RIGHT, you get to shoot the base defenses. There aren't many enemies
to contend with, rather there are cannons on panels to be destroyed. You should
have no problem using blast shots to kill them all. Peppy gets attacked for the
SECOND TIME IN THIS LEVEL ALONE, the stupid bastard. Save him, like always, but
I don't find it unreasonable for you to hold a grudge and let the dumbass
get blown out of the sky. Just remember that you need him alive to get the
medal. ROB calls and drops a box to you, you shoot some more cannons (:Yawn:),
and you merge paths.
From the merge, it's time for the boss!
BOSS: SPYBORG
***************
It has two shining yellow eyes that open and close. When the eyes are open, it's
your job to shoot them. The boss starts out fairly simply. It fires beams from
its head while you shoot at the eyes. That's all it'll do until you get it down
to about half health. Once it gets to half health, it will declare "Where is
the creator?" and will fire its rocket-propelled hands at you. Fox, being a
total moron, asks "What's he saying?" repeatedly as the robot keeps saying
"Where in the creator?" Keep firing as the eye appears and don't lose your
patience with Fox's broken record speaking.
Finally, just before the HP runs out, its head will explode. However, it's not
dead, of course. "The view is clear", it says. If you've been looking at the
boss picture, it's a red eye, not two yellow ones. Well, now in the place where
his "head" was before there's an indentation. In that indentation you can see
a little red eye. THERE HE IS! Shoot at the eye until he dies. Shouldn't take
much time at all. Just dodge the debris that he's chucking at you.
If for some reason you can't do it, Slippy will attempt to kill the machine, and
it will smack his ship and cause him to crash on the nearby planet of Titania.
You still have to kill it, though. Honestly, if you know the weakpoint, it's
almost impossible not to kill it before Slippy gets smacked.
The level is made of lava- just flying here makes you take damage, despite
Slippy's claim of "It's fine at up to 9000 degrees!" Don't worry, though- the
heat itself cannot kill you or your teammates, although it leaves you VERY prone
to a 1-hit KO. Dodge fireballs, dodge waves, and stay up- the closer you are
to the lava, the more damage you will take. Interesting to note: your partners
only take damage while talking to you... Maybe they should just shut the
hell up for once.
This level isn't really all that hard. Kill the flying enemies while ignoring
the snakes. Peppy will holler at you, telling you to shoot the rocks. Take his
advice- the rocks drop items, notably shields, to refill your health. Use laser
blasts to take out the tight clusters, or possibly even bombs, depending on your
supply.
The lava begins to move more dramatically. Plan accordingly and avoid the lava
"waves" that come at you. This level doesn't change much- flying birds will
appear for you to shoot, flying rocks will appear for you to shoot (shiny rocks
have better items, so make it a point to destroy them), and there are lava waves
to be avoided.
At some point, ROB will call you and drop a silver star, which you most likely
will need. If you don't need it, it'll be a bomb. Oh, and don't forget Bill.
Bill comes to your aid through the level, and you should be very grateful for
this (unless you came from Aquas for some bizarre reason, in which case there's
no Bill.)
Keep dodging lava waves, shooting rocks, and shooting birds. CHECKPOINT!
Nothing changes really. You have to save falco from a group of birdies, though.
Slippy, too, although he's only being chased by one enemy... pansy.
Here's the thing, though- the lava's hurting them, too. They can't take much
damage before having to back off.
Now, finally a change of pace. A very large wave appears, so fly up into the
corner to avoid it. Come back down and go about your business like always,
shooting rocks and killing birds. ROB will drop another item for you, and you
should try to get it as it's probably something that you'll need. Keep going,
dear sir... Oh, no! Boss time!
BOSS: VULCAIN
***************
This boss is apparently a living thing of some sort... Beats me how that's
possible, but that's what they tell me.
Your first target is the arms- Shoot them until they die. It will fire
rocks at you so as to give you a steady supply of health (your HP will continue
to go down during this fight). It swings its arms at you, so do your best to
avoid his swipes. Oh, and he likes creating waves. You can either dodge them
or brake. Braking allows the wave to fall back down before it gets to you. Its
best to use the two in conjunction.
Once you destroy the arms, your job is to move on to the head. It will add
some variety to its attacks. It will launch a myriad of fireballs at you that
you have to do your best to dodge (that, or make sure to get lots of silver
rings). He'll also jump up and splash, sending tons of rocks flying at you, as
well as a HUGE wave. Dodge to the left, or dodge to the right, depending on the
wave, or take TONS of health. Destroy those, yawn, and keep going. Shouldn't
take you very long to destroy his head, especially with hyper lasers.
Zoness is a sort of toxic planet, and from what I can tell it's a shipping plant
that is riddled with security search lights that have no apparent purpose and
nasty birds for you to kill.
You start out along the water, dealing with enemies. However you immediately
get to deal with an enemy group (I think it's a group) that resembles a star.
Fire a charged blast to kill it for muchos puntos. When you see the crane
holding a box, blast the box with a charged shot and grab its contents- make a
habit of shooting and grabbing ALL boxes that you find in this level.
You'll see your first searchlight and the gang will tell you shoot them so
as not to get spotted. If you get spotted they'll all flash red, but honestly I
don't know what purpose they serve as being caught does NOTHING. However, the
only way to get to Sector Z is to destroy each search light without being seen,
so while being spotted won't affect the rest of the level, you can't get to
the long-sought Z. They also each provide three hits towards your total, and so
if you want a medal you MUST shoot them.
So, the level goes on pretty uneventfully. You'll have to fly under buildings
and weave around some enemies to shoot the search lights, but it's pretty much
a no-brainer. If you got to Zoness, you should be more than capable of doing
this stuff.
Slippy's under attack again, the stupid bastard. Take care of his trailers only
to find yourself being trailed by them as well. Brake and/or loop to get them
in front of you and take them down. Luckily, Peppy and Falco don't have to deal
with a stalker, so just save Slippy and don't get yourself killed.
What's that? A new teammate? YES! KATT! Katt, unlike Bill, likes to fly solo,
and more importantly you get help from her on TWO levels instead of just one.
She'll assist you in taking out all of the searchlights, assuming that you've
been bothering to shoot them at all. She'll handle the ones on the left and you
get to blow up the ones on the right. Pay attention- you have to weave around
the scenery and it's really easy for one to slip by. Watch the lights and watch
how wide the lights are to determine which light is the closest to you.
Now comes MY favorite part to the level. A leviathan of some sort (It's a very
big snake) appears in the water. It can't be killed or forced to move out of
your way, so treat it like a really obnoxious moving obstacle. The hardest
searchlight to get in this level is right behind one of these snakes. You can
either boost and beat the snake to it, fly low and try to go under a coil, or
fly through it for some damage. Whatever you try to do, I wish you luck- I know
that search light was more trouble to me than any of the others.
Keep on going, destroying search lights and killing enemies. CHECKPOINT!
You'll come across your first gate for this level. Basically, here's how they
work. You're familiar with a water mill, right? It works like so: the mill is
a series of wooden planks that are placed into running water. The moving water
causes the series of planks, which are attached circularly to a centerpiece, to
spin.
Well, these gates work the same way. There are "mill wheels" on the sides of the
gates, and to open them you have to shoot the wheels to get them spinning so as
to open the gate. Peppy explains it in-game as well, and if you're still
having some problems, check out the other fairly long walkthrough that goes so
far as to actually have diagrams for it.
As you try and knock the gates open, be sure to open the one with a search light
behind it. After that is another light that's being obstructed by the
leviathan. From there, it's pretty straightforward until you get to the port.
I think it's a port, anyway... there are cargo ships everywhere, and all of the
cargo onboard can be destroyed to help you get your 250 total points. So, hop
to it! Shoot the cargo!
Slippy will start showing off his sweet moves, and if you follow him through
the target areas (basically the holes he flies through) you stand to get an
item.
Continue shooting the boxes, and try using blast shots/bombs. Don't worry about
conserving bombs- the upcoming area provides you with all the bombs you need.
Katt will make some runs along the boats and WILL TAKE YOUR KILLS. Don't let
that woman take your kills! Use boost to get to them faster, or use charged
shots
to take them out in groups. Also use group shots to kill the guys skimming
across
the water, as that will get you five points per group. You'll come to an area of
raised land that you can either go above or below. There are enemies on top, so
go on top! Get those points!
Finish shooting the searchlights and get those skimmers. Watch out for those
depth charge-like weapons. They go off at sort of random intervals and will
damage no matter how high up you are. Once you're past them, it's time for one
of the most entertaining bosses I've ever seen!
BOSS: SARUMARINE
******************
A pirate who seems to have a mild "slowness" to him, he's the most unique
boss you'll fight in this game, because you DON'T use lasers on him for a
majority of the fight.
As the name suggests, he's a submarine captain and he pilots a heavily armored
sub. First and foremost, learn a basic fact- lasers cannot harm him. His armor
is too thick. However, you have more powerful weapons than lasers to use... you
might have noticed that he fires cannonballs at you, and by shooting them, you
get a bomb. HINT, HINT! Use bombs!
So, that's the key to beating him, but first let's talk about his attacks. He's
got the cannon balls, and those are ridiculously easy to take care of as a laser
blast destroys them for a bomb. Oh, remember those depth charges from earlier?
He drops those, so dodge them. He also has a long ball on a chain that you
need to deal with. You really shouldn't have a problem dodging it, though. Just
pay attention and you'll have no problem.
First off, you see that double smokestack on the front of it? Pop those off
with a bomb or two. Once they fall off, it's time to get rid of his gun turrets.
A bomb will blow them off and make them sink. Shoot one off, and he'll turn
around and use the crane on the back of his machine to pick it back up. Pump
some bombs into it and destroy the crane. If he pulls the gun turret back up
before you manage, that's OK- just knock it off again! Once the crane is gone,
the turret sinks for good.
Now, you knock off that last turret. However, before you do that, grab some
bombs- it's your chance to get up to 9 bombs without worry. Once you're ready,
blow the second one off.
Sarumarine will behave like the attack carrier did, flying backwards in a large
arc and coming back at you with an attack. NOW you can use lasers. Use them
until he falls. He doesn't have much to throw at you- lasers, his ball on a
chain. Beyond that, he's a joke. End his misery and make him stop that wicked
laughter.
By far my least favorite level, it's a pain in the neck to complete, and you're
stuck using a landmaster.
You're on a desert planet, and you get to rumble around in a tank. Check earlier
in my Training section (ViA) to learn the controls of this baby. Once you know
what you're doing, let's begin!
First you'll be presented with a series of falling columns and the items that
are underneath the columns. Now, your first instinct is *probably* to try and
boost underneath, but that's NOT the best strategy and wastes health- I've found
that on Titania, you need all of your health, so don't waste it needlessly.
Instead, outsmart the pillars. They don't fall onto the item every time. Rather,
they fall on whatever side of the pillar you're on from a short distance away.
I'm going to take a leaf out of Aquatakat's book and just pull his diagram,
because there's no way I could explain it better, and pictures are worth 1000
words.
As you can see, the AI that controls the pillars can be outsmarted. (Don't ask
how a piece of stone has AI, or I'll have to smack you.)
SO, besides those colums, you're presented with your typical enemies, and some
GIANT crabs. Peppy advises bombs, but frankly a charged shot and some normal
shots will take it out with little trouble.
As you continue, your teammates will throw some banter around. You'll see little
green disks in the dirt. DON'T HIT THEM! They're landmines that will damage you.
Continue destroying the crabs and the flying enemies, and it's time for a new
enemy- little bombs in the ground. Don't get CLOSE, much less touch them, or
they'll blow up in your face.
Grab the items (gold and silver rings, especially) and continue on. You'll enter
a valley with several tall buildings- Peppy will recommend that you boost
through it. Why? Those towers fire lasers at you. To destroy them, lock on and
chuck a bomb- that's the easiest way.
You'll now run into some flying enemies coupled with land enemies. Make full use
of your charged shots. CHECKPOINT!
You'l run into tons of enemy ships and falling columns. Keep your wits about you
and get through. ROB will contact you and drop some supplies. Immediately
following, Falco comes under attack, so be ready- as a tank, it's hard
to get a good lock-on. MORE AND MO REenemies will come along, and eventually you
come across some flying enemies who drop things on you. Dodge 'em!
Slippy calls, and from there it's just grabbing items until... BOSS!
BOSS: GORAS
*************
First thing's first- don't shoot slippy. Instead, shoot the hands that appear
above the sand. He'll submerge and reappear with his WHOLE BODY up. Avoid his
claws- two slash at you and two fire lasers at you. Keep shooting his arms until
Slippy is finally freed.
With all of his arms gone, it's just a matter of shooting the boss's heart. He
starts moving around violently, trying to smash you with his tail, as well as
firing lasers in your general direction. Lob some bombs, some charged shots, and
bascially just unload into the boss until he dies.
***** VIM. MACBETH *****
*****************************************************************************
A landmaster level, again... however, unlike Titania, this level is actually
quite entertaining, being responsible for destroying an entire train and causing
it to careen out of control into a fuel station, if you play the cards right.
____________________________________________________________________________
Difficulty: Medium
Points Needed for Medal: 150
How to Get Here: Finish Solar, Kill Spyborg without losing Slippy, or finish
Zoness without destroying all of the spotlights
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
You start alongside the train, behind several cars toting rocks. You can destroy
every single car on the train, so begin the process now by shooting the cars
on your left. Every car you destroy now won't bug you later.
Deal with enemies flying from above, while sniping the enemies off the towers.
Don't run into any barricades, but shoot them instead. Some enemies will come
along the track and cause further irritation, so kill those bastards too.
Things stay pretty boring until you get out of the wide-open space. Your team
members can handle themselves and control the skies. You really don't have to
do jack. However, once you're in the enclosing of sorts, things become almost
interesting. He chucks boulders at you. Either hover over them or just blast
them until they blow up.
You'll get down into the canyon, and you can see the train overhead, with a
gun-like thing firing at the nearby walls, causing boulders to fall. So, get
even! Hover up and fire a bomb at it to destroy it.
Falco needs a quick save, so take care of him- should be a no brainer. There's
another cannon to destroy, so try and do so. You'll enter a tunnel, and he'll
detach some more train cars. The cars in front of you should all be destroyed
with utmost haste, because you'll collide if you don't destroy them but choose
to remain on the track.
"Come a little closer", he says.. Obviously a trick. He crosses the tunnel with
metal girders. Hover over them like Peppy suggests and keep shooting the cars.
CHECKPOINT!
Keep shooting the cars to the train until you get to a giant metal car- that's
the end of the line- no more cars to shoot. However, Falco points out the fuel
bunker "on the right side!" It's your job to flip all of the switches and then
send him packing!
However, first contend with your surroundings. There are moving doors all
around you. Some of them move on their own, and others move when you shoot them.
There's nothing especially important behind them, but there are some shields,
and possibly some bombs.
Time for those switches! Here goes:
Switch one is on the right, immediately followed by switch number two. Switch
three is found on the right and four on the left in the same spot, so sit on
the track itself and shoot them both- plan ahead a bit so you don't miss one.
At this point, the boss appears. Switch number five appears on the left, so
snag it while he monologues about how lucky you are. Switch six is behind
one of those walls that you have to shoot to move, so move the wall and shoot
the switch. Seven is immediately back on the left side. Lastly, switch number
eight, is on the right side of where seven was. If you have Falco, he'll
say "I'm here to rescue you!" and hit it himself.
OH, by the way- Katt makes an appearence if you came from Zoness. She'll shoot
switch five for you if you don't get it yourself.
"OK, now shoot the switcher." It's hard to miss- it's a bright green square in
front of you. Shoot the panel on top to switch the tracks and kill the boss
for fifty-one points. JACKPOT!
~~~~~~~
Of course, if you don't manage that (which you usually don't your first time),
it's boss time!
BOSS: MECHBETH
******************
As I said before, this guy reveals himself when you get to switch five. He's
a flying enemy attachment to the train. It's got two cannon wings, which he
uses to fire spears down into the ground, creating mazes of pillars for you
to dodge. Shoot them or dodge- your call. It also has a sort of jaw on the
bottom that it grabs you with as he swings down upon you. Shoot the jaw-like
structure and what would be the head if it were a living thing.
From there, it's time to destroy the train engine. His only attack is an energy
attack that you just have to avoid, whether with barrel rolling or with
hovering. An opening will make itself apparent to you. Shoot the opening to make
the boss careen out of control. Take the opportunity to shoot him at this point.
Repeat until you have a dead monkey!

Bolse is another all-range level that is quite short and sweet. Destroy the

Difficulty: Easy

How to Get Here: Finish Titania or Defeat Mechbeth, OR let Great Fox get hit

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
You start flying towards a purple dome- this is the core of the satellite
that has been wrapped in an energy shield. The shield is powered by the towers
around the satellite, so your first job is to destroy them.
Due to the fact that the sattelite spins, you will have some fairly confusing
moments where things move differently than they should- don't let that faze you
and stick to your goal of destroying the outposts to the shield. You have to
travel with the current, because if you try to travel against it, you'll just
not move at all, and that's pointless.
Dodge the lightning and destroy the towers. Once you do, the satellite stops
spinning and ships fly out of the center. Kill them to get silver and gold rings
and to prevent your teammates from being killed by them (they'll get tailed
many times.) When you get tailed, just do a quick flip to get the enemies off
your tail.
Now, to win the level, all you have to do are destroy the little bumps on the
core rod, which will appear when Peppy says something. Once you do, the level's
over, and you win! Of course, the bumps aren't so easy to destroy. Each one
that you destroy leaves a hole that fires lasers from it, so when there's only
one bump left and twenty lasers flying every which way... just be careful
and you should be OK.
Of course, I almost forgot, but Star Wolf's here if you didn't beat him on
Fortuna. JOY!
BOSS: STAR WOLF, PIGMA, LEON, ANDREW
**************************************
It's a 4 vs. 4 dogfight, and each pilot has an opponent:
Star Wolf will mercilessly hound Star Fox
Leon will tail Falco
Pigma berates Peppy
Andrew attacks Slippy
Assuming you have all four party members, that's how it will run down. HOWEVER,
once it's no longer 4v4, this pattern goes away, with the exception of Star
Wolf, who refuses to tail anyone but you.
Remember what I said in the Fortuna strategy: to make things easier, when they
arrive and start making elaborate speeches, press start. You bypass the
cinematic scene and get more time to set yourself up as they fly down instead
of starting with them on your tail.
First, take care of Star Wolf. Using a flip on him will confuse him and leave
him completely vulnerable to your lasers. Take him down quickly and painlessly
to give your full attention to helping your party members.
Unlike Fortuna, there are plenty of other enemies as well. You need to be
fairly quick if you want your party members with you on Venom, because they're
taken down fairly quickly and easily on this level. Get those three obnoxious
enemies (and Star Wolf, of course) so you can continue on with the level.

Venom's line of defense is thick with enemies and grids. It is by far the
toughest level in the game, but I find it also to be an immensely fun one to
play and guide through.
Unfortunately there are so many things going on that I can't very well direct
you through each and every step, but generally speaking I can tell you what to
watch out for.

You're immediately greeted with those spiral things you saw on the map. They
provide four hits for killing them... but so what? Next to each one is a fleet
of ships that will give seven points, and they only take one cluster shot. For
point's sake, kill them.
You come to a mine field directly- This is the single best points zone in the
game. Fire off bombs to get in excess of 100 points by the time you leave the
mine field. What was supposed to be a dodging exercise becomes a haven for
people who need the A6 medal.
Keep attacking the fleets and Falco will get tailed by one. Save him before
he gets taken down- you'll want him when you get to Venom. As you continue
on through, ROB will call and give you coverfire with Great Fox. He'll fire
lasers that greatly weaken the ships you see in front of you. Take full
advantage and wipe them out for EASY points. Just watch their torpedoes, which
pack a punch.
"Incoming enemy missiles!" Several missiles are hurled in your general
direction, and you need to either A) avoid them, or B) destroy them. In order to
avoid them, destroy all the missiles on one side and fly by. Slippy will still
yell, but he's OK, don't worry.
Peppy will come under fire by SEVERAL missiles. Save him ASAP. You'll get
a call from ROB... or will you? No, it's not ROB- It's Andross! He's happy to
see you! CHECKPOINT!
You're through line one of three. Now you get to face even more ship fleets!
It's very quick to get through the second line. Shoot all of the enemies and
when you see the rings of 6, use a charged shot to kill 'em all.
The final line is comprised of several GINORMOUS ships that you can either
choose to kill or choose to dodge. Killing is probably safer, so long as you
stay in a fairly constant barrel roll. Great Fox provides some more support for
your team as well.
Slippy will talk about how Venom is right up ahead and will fail to notice that
he's being tailed. Save him QUICKLY. ROB will also send down some supplies for
you, be it bombs or shields depending on your needs.
You breach the final line, and...
"Dang! Deploy it NOW!"
BOSS TIME!
BOSS: GORGON
**************
I hate this bastard... He's a flying disk with a centerpiece... thing. It opens
up and there are three red balls. Shoot them until they're destroyed. Once they
are, shoot the middle core. It starts out blue but slowly fades to red as you
damage it. The core will eventually close up again, and the machine will
release three arms. You have to destroy those arms to get the core opened again.
As you're shooting those arms, it will fire volleys of missiles and ships at
you that you can either destroy or dodge- I recommend destroying, as it's
usually (again) much safer than hoping you can dodge them all.
Continue this pattern a couple of times, and he'll bring out his monstrosity
of a weapon. He charges and fires an ENORMOUS laser from the center that
will RIP ARWING APART. It's also VERY HARD TO DODGE. To dodge it, you have
to wait in the center for a couple of seconds, and then HAUL YOUR ASS down to
the bottom right corner and hug it until the beam stops. Go too early and the
beam will aim so that it hits you. Too late and it will hit you.
Oh, by the way- if you lose a wing in this fight, I recommend you start over,
because beating the next level without hyper lasers REALLY sucks.
HOWEVER, for the more positive part. His defenses don't extend beyond that.
You'll finally reach his HP when his core turns yellow and black, and if
you maintain your hyper lasers, you should easily be able to take out his
core in two turns once it turns to black.
Overall, the boss packs a punch, but once you figure out how to survive, he's
actually not that difficult to beat. I still hate him, though- does way too
much damage after how bad of a beating you probably took from the level.

***** VIQ. VENOM 1 *****
*****************************************************************************
There are two paths to Venom- one from Bolse and one from Area 6. You arrive
on venom from opposite sides and therefore have two different levels.
____________________________________________________________________________
Difficulty: Easy (technically, but it's still tough)
Points Needed for Medal: 200
How to Get Here: Finish Bolse
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
From the beginning, a swarm of enemies will fly down to *greet* you. Drop a bomb
or two to dispose of them for lots of points, or just fly through. As Peppy
aptly puts it, "They're everywhere!", so shoot LOTS of lasers, and I recommend
staying in a constant barrel roll through most of the canyon.
Be sure to dodge the high and low... bars of rock? Defiance of nature or not,
they're obstacles to be dealt with, so do so. (you can stop barrel rolling, as
the enemies are all gone.) When you see the gold ring and laser upgrade on top
of one another, you *may* be able to grab them both using a loop, although
there's no guarantee of that- you have to fly VERY low to manage it.
You're met with another cluster of enemies past the canyon, so use a charged
shot to take them all out, and go back into barrel rolls the minute you see
their shots being fired!
Slippy flies out in front to grab some enemies- I managed to hit that stupid
amphibian twice while trying to shoot them myself... Bah. From there,
you're asked if you want to go left or right. Falco goes left and Peppy right.
Since I hate Peppy, I won't even discuss the right path. Let's go left.
Down the left path are a few butterfly enemies to contend with, and then some
clusters. Do a barrel roll!, and when you see the next work, go left again. More
enemies, as well as some rocks coming out from the walls a bit. Barrel roll some
more (getting tired of barrel rolls yet?) and shoot the enemies on the ground
as they appear. There will be TONS. ROB will send you a box of supplies, and if
you're like me it'll contain a silver star.
Another fork, and Slippy goes left, so let's go right! You finally leave the
canyon area into open territory. However, you back into the canyons again, and
suddenly the earth moves- that is, spikes fly up from the ground. SEVERAL
spikes, I might add. Fly up and above them several times and you'll get to leave
the canyons again.
Once out in the open, a couple of enemies will appear and Peppy will open up:
"This brings back memories of your dad", and all that lovely crap. You get a
call on your ship, but it's NOT ROB. It's Andross, taunting you. CHECKPOINT!
Your teammates do some synchronized flying, but it's up to you to continue on
into the temple with stone men standing around the entrance, flailing their
arms. Time for a mini-boss!
MINI-BOSS: GOLEMECH
*********************
This guy's pretty easy, actually. You enter the temple, and he looms up ahead,
daring you to shoot him. He doesn't actually attack you at all, and you just
get to shoot him. In reality, he's not stone, just a robot covered in stone.
Your job is to remove the stone covering. How? Shoot him until it falls off.
Shoot whatever panels you want- shoulders, feet, back... doesn't matter, because
you have to shoot them all anyway. As he runs away from you (pansy), stone
bars come out from the walls in increasingly complex patterns for you to dodge.
He also jumps, causing pillars to rise from the ground, so you must utilize
R and Z to fly between those pillars. Lastly, when he jumps, pillars already
on the walls fall down, so you need to either brake or boost, or if you're an
ace pilot, to fly around them as they fall.
One other thing to watch out for are those statues that you saw outside. They're
in here, too, and in the confines of the tunnel, there's no wiggle room and you
can easily run into their arms.
As for the boss, just shoot all of the panels until they're destroyed. Don't
worry when Falco tells you not to get too close to him, because unless you
boost yourself up to him, he won't ever back up enough to hit you, but
rather will just make himself that much better of a target for you to shoot.
Once all the panels are destroyed, you need to shoot his head. It will begin to
turn red as it takes hits and will eventually explode, exposing the robot head.
Shoot the robot until it dies. Ta-da! Simple enough, no?
**********
From here, it's time to take on Andross. Fox decides to "go it alone from here",
because this time it's personal!
You'll fly down a series of tunnels before getting to Andross. Unlike Venom 2,
this is a straight pathway. Instead, you get to dodge purple lightning grids.
Grab the two laser upgrades, the THREE gold rings and the bomb while Andross
monologues. This is it! The final showdown!
BOSS: ANDROSS ANDROID
**********************
Like the name? Thought it up myself! Isn't it original and clever?
">_>"
OK, OK- sorry, already...
You appear in this really messed up green vortex-world... thing. Andross is just
a giant head. He has several weakpoints:
1) His hands. These are what you need to destroy first
2) His eyes. You have hyper lasers- firing into either eye will make him rub
that eye with the respective hand, leaving the other hand open to a harsh
punishment from your lasers.
3) His mouth. At some point, he's bound to try to inhale you. DO NOT LET HIM,
for doing so destroys both of your wings, and with them goes your hyper
cannon. Instead, chuck a bomb into the gaping hole. He will eat the bomb and
be duly harmed by it.
Now, he's only got a few attacks. If you shoot his eyes, he will come back at
you with his right (which is YOUR left) hand firing a laser. If you destroy his
right hand, the left hand will not continue using the laser, so kill the right
hand first.
Beyond that, he swings his hands at you, as well as trying to inhale you to
munch on your wings. You cannot die to ingestion, but like on Solar, it leaves
you extremely vulnerable to any other attacks.
Once both hands are destroyed, shoot his face. He's likely to try to suck you
in, so fire a bomb. He'll be stopped, and you'll be given chance to shoot some
more. He can only take so much damage before he starts to holler and his face
melts away...
Now the android appears, although for some reason it still has normal ears...
crazy goat bastard. Finish him off in three seconds by unloading with your
lasers. If you don't have hyper anymore, then dodge his charges forward and
shoot at his face (doesn't really matter where) until he goes down.
Congratulations, you just beat Andross! Too bad it wasn't the real him! Oh, well
though- there's always next time!

***** VIR. VENOM 2 *****
*****************************************************************************
This is it! The final level! It's also the toughest one you'll have, and it
starts in a vicious dogfight- the final show down with Star Wolf!
____________________________________________________________________________
Difficulty: Hard
Points Needed for Medal: 200
How to Get Here: Finish Area 6
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
You begin the level in the area directly after the fight with Golemech in Venom
1. You'll fly for maybe two or three seconds before you're thrown into a boss
fight with Star Wolf!
BOSS: STAR WOLF, PIGMA, LEON, ANDREW
**************************************
It's a 4 vs. 4 dogfight, and each pilot has an opponent:
Star Wolf will mercilessly hound Star Fox
Leon will tail Falco
Pigma berates Peppy
Andrew attacks Slippy
Assuming you have all four party members, that's how it will run down. HOWEVER,
once it's no longer 4v4, this pattern goes away, with the exception of Star
Wolf, who refuses to tail anyone but you. (Yes, I'm repeating myself from
earlier)
This fight is a whole new ballgame, though- their ships are stronger, they take
more hits, and more importantly, the AI is better. You actually have to know
what you're doing to make it out in one piece this time. For example, doing a
flip over Star Wolf won't confuse him; he'll just flip right back behind you.
Don't bother trying to use bombs or charged lasers- they don't work.
First thing's first- if you've fought other Star Wolf battles, you will remember
that the first thing you do (and this is a key element to getting an edge to
win) is skip their cutscene. You start the level flying west (assuming NSEW on
the radar screen), and when the four appear, they will appear on the east side
also traveling West. So, you have two options:
1) Veer hard to the left or right and make a full turn before they appear/ as
they are appearing.
2) Do a u-turn once they appear.
Once they are in your sights, start firing. It's not entirely uncommon to wipe
out one of them before they even enter the dogfight. If you pull that off, it
makes things that much easier. Of course, if you don't, that's OK. So long as
you deal some good damage, you'll grab an edge.
Now, my goal is to have you finish this fight in a single try so that you've
got hyper lasers, which help TREMENDOUSLY. However, you can still do it with
regular lasers, so don't fret if you do die.
FIRST TARGET: STAR WOLF
Star Wolf is not going to leave you alone until he dies, so don't bat around
the bush- kill him. The general strategy is to use flips to try and get him
in front of you. The problem is that he often flips as well. So, you do what
you can. Flip and let out a steady stream of fire as you do. You're likely to
land a shot or two before he's behind you again. Beyond that, all you can do
is continue flipping; despite being a computer, he will eventually stop tailing
you. Once he's in front, use R and Z to cut corners HARD and follow him, firing
away. If he gets on your tail, repeat until he finally falls.
That's the tough part. Once Star Wolf is down, the rest go down fast.
SECOND TARGET: PIGMA
Pigma is the most deadset on killing Peppy, and he's likely to have taken some
heavy damage before you saved him on Area 6. Ignore Andrew and Leon- find Pigma
and shoot him down. The number 1 rule in this dogfight is to pick a man and stay
with him. If you do that, he'll go down easy. When he flips, either flip with
him or use the brakes, because even if he doesn't wind up behind you, he may
very well get out of your range using the flip, depending on the angle of
interception that you have.
THIRD TARGET: ANDREW
By now the enemies are probably not tailing anybody, but they still generally
like to pick on certain targets. Unless Falco is in critical condition, he's
the most capable member of your group and can hold his own for a very long time.
So, save Slippy from Andrew. Use the same strategy that you did against Pigma
and shoot until he goes down.
FINAL TARGET: LEON
4 on 1. The odds are in your favor, and Leon's a pushover. He probably won't
fly in any pattern and will just fire a bit all over the place. Shoot him down,
already. If you got this far, you know what to do.
******************
...Whew, that was a long strategy. EASILY the toughest fight in the game, I
applaud your efforts if you managed it with little or no trouble. NOW... Time
to kill Andross! Once again, Fox must go it alone.
So I kind of lied- this isn't the same passage as in venom 1, because now the
path to Andross winds this way and that, with various items down the paths,
depending on which way you choose to go. To maximize your items, go this way:
left tunnel, right tunnel, left, left, right, right, ANDROSS! You'll snag
lasers, gold rings AND bombs, and you're probably going to need all three. If
you're ready, it's time to face your father's murderer.
***********
**ANDROSS**
***********
If you fought the android in another playthrough, you will be quite familiar
with this boss. He has a large face and two free-floating hands that resemble
master hand from SSB, but they've got crystals in the center. Your first goal
is to destroy the hands.
He's got a couple of attacks so far. He swings his hands at you to throw you
across the screen and possibly damage the integrity of your ship. Simple evasive
manuevers will suffice. He'll also fire a laser out of his right hand (that's
YOUR left). Therefore, it makes sense to destroy his left hand first. Lastly,
he will try to eat you. He'll suck in air with his mouth, and if he catches you
he will chew on you and spit you out. It cannot kill you, but it DOES destroy
both of your wings. The rocks he spews when he exhales hold rocks, so if you can
avoid being swallowed, shoot them for some shields. HOWEVER, the easier thing to
do is to fire a bomb. If you do he'll swallow it and it will cause an explosion
in his mouth, stunning him.
SO, on to killing him- Shooting his eyes will stun him and expose the crystals
on his hands for an easy target. Shoot his eyes to stun, and then shoot at his
left hand. You will PROBABLY not destroy it, but you might. If you do not, he
will immediately fire his purple laser. Dodge it and keep firing at his eye. If
you're good (and you probably are if you got past Star Wolf), you'll stun him
again before he finishes firing.
With the first hand destroyed, shoot the eyes again and destroy the other hand.
Remember to toss bombs into his mouth when he tries to inhale. Once both hands
are gone, just shoot his face a couple of times to make it disentigrate.
Andross will show his TRUE FORM!
ANDROSS FORM 2
****************
He's now an ugly brain with two eyeballs attached to the brain by electricity.
The battle becomes all-range, and your job is to destroy Andross. This time you
have to destroy the eyes. The brain will remain essentially stationary and the
eyes will fly around. Use basic evasive tactics- flips, boosting, hard turns...
you'll easily get behind them and wipe them out.
Once the eyeballs are both dead, all you have to contend with is the brain
itself. It doesn't really DO anything but move around, but if it runs into you,
it does a really high amount of damage as well as destroying your ship. It can
also teleport, which is a bit of a pain. You MUST use your radar screen to know
what's going on.
The brain has a patch on its underside in the back that is of a different
color than the rest. That's his weakpoint. Pump it full of lasers. As for how
to avoid him- he only teleports when you get too close, so you have to shoot
from a distance. He also has a nasty habit of teleporting on top of you. If he
does so, use boost or do a U-turn to get across the arena and away from him.
Once you do that you can use R and Z to sharply turn around and face off with
him.
A strategy that I enjoy (although it can be dangerous) is to do a circling
match with him. Hold R or Z and just continually turn in a direction. Andross
will follow, but because your ship can move easier, you'll eventually catch up
to him and be right in front of his weakpoint for a cheap shot. However, you can
get caught, or you can simply miss and have wasted your time. I still enjoy it,
though.
*************
Once Andross dies, he will blow up, and you will have to escape! How will you
ever get out if you don't remember what path you took?? Not to worry, though-
James McCloud comes to the rescue... the hell? Your father is alive?
Follow him through the tunnels, boosting whenever you can and being sure not
to run into the walls. You CAN die here, which means you can get a game over
in those last few seconds of the game... talk about a lousy way to end up.
Follow him safely, and YA-HOO! YOU MADE IT! GAME OVER! YOU WIN! YAY!
...Yeah, that's it. Ladies and Gentlemen, Star Fox 64.

***** VII. BOSSES *****
*****************************************************************************
These boss strategies are identical to those found within the walkthrough. They
are merely listed here for quick reference if you're only looking for boss
strategies.
****************
**BOSS: GRANGA**
****************
FROM: CORNERIA
He's a gigantic robot that basically cannot move. It's really quite simple. Fly
towards him and fire at his legs repeatedly. His legs will explode and he will
fall down. To kill him, you have to shoot the green backpack (it's flashing- you
cannot miss it). Shoot it until he dies. If you can't get that right, well...
Best of luck, sir!
***************************************
************************
**BOSS: ATTACK CARRIER**
************************
FROM: CORNERIA
Fans of Star Fox will remember this bad guy! He's even easier than last time
with the superior controls. As Peppy says, aim for the open spots. He deploys
units at you from three holes. While he is deploying enemies, fire upon those
holes. You'll destroy the enemies that he's sending as well as damage him. After
you do a certain amount of damage to each opening, a part of his ship will fall
off.
Once all three parts fall off, you can actually damage him. He will fly away
and then fly forward again throwing beams at you- everything he's got.
...:Yawn:. If you have hyper lasers, you'll kill him before he even opens fire.
He has no weak spot anymore. Just shoot him until he goes down.
****************************************
***********************
**BOSS: METEO CRUSHER**
***********************
FROM: METEO
This guy has multiple parts to him because he's a devious little bastard that
likes to pretend that he's been defeated before showing you he's lying (although
if Slippy's still alive, you know he's not dead because his health bar isn't
empty yet... Way to go, Nintendo!)
First, he'll have a spinning plate facing you. Don't hit the plate, as doing so
will cause it to absorb the attack. After it has absorbed enough of your laser
it will fire it all back and do some damage to you (reminds me of the N64 Zelda:
Ocarina of Time and TwinRova.) So, instead you must shoot the yellow things that
present themselves to you. There are four- one on each side of the body
underneath the spinning plate.
Once you destroy them, the plate flies off and you get to fight the ship itself.
It pulses electricity at you, so be ready for it. Between his attacks there will
be a large diamond that appears on the ship (once again in yellow... gotta love
the obvious weak spot). Shoot the diamond until he admits defeat.
However, like I said, if his health isn't empty, he's not done yet. Final stage
of this guy deals with him firing two rays of purple circle at you while you
shoot some MORE yellow squares. After all of it, he finally goes down in a
blaze!
***************************************
**************************************
**BOSS: MECH TROOPER (x2) and SHOGUN**
**************************************
FROM: SECTOR Y
First you get to kill the mech troopers, which are just tougher Gundams. This
fight will be in all-range mode, and it may be somewhat frustrating because of
how small they are. However, your party can actually kill these two off by
themselves.
For Shogun, it's a much more powerful, much more obnoxious Gundam. This guy
has a shield to absorb your lasers, lots of HP, and loves to move a lot. Since
he's as small as you, if not smaller, finding him on your screen is nearly
impossible. Make FULL use of your radar in this battle.
Shogun's a real pain- he degrades you through the whole fight and then
becomes whiny when you hit him. The good news is that he gets cocky enough to
land back on the ship where he came from and not move, making him a ridiculously
easy target to pick off. So, if you can't kill him in a dogfight, wait for that
instead. He's not hard, just takes a long time.
***************************************
****************************************
**BOSS: STAR WOLF, PIGMA, LEON, ANDREW**
****************************************
FROM: FORTUNA
It's a 4 vs. 4 dogfight, and each pilot has an opponent:
Star Wolf will mercilessly hound Star Fox
Leon will tail Falco
Pigma berates Peppy
Andrew attacks Slippy
Assuming you have all four party members, that's how it will run down. HOWEVER,
once it's no longer 4v4, this pattern goes away, with the exception of Star
Wolf, who refuses to tail anyone but you.
As it's the first Star Wolf battle, it's not meant to be hard. However, here's
the number one rule for SW battles to make things easier- when they arrive and
start making elaborate speeches, press start. You bypass the cinematic scene
and get more time to set yourself up as they fly down instead of starting with
them on your tail.
First, take care of Star Wolf. Using a flip on him will confuse him and leave
him completely vulnerable to your lasers. Take him down quickly and painlessly
to give your full attention to helping your party members.
There's no real strategy, just remember to cut turns by holding Z and R so that
you can follow them better. With all four down, the planet is saved, and such.
YAY!
***************************************
******************
**BOSS: SAUCERER**
******************
FROM: KATINA
It's not much of a boss- it has four hatches. Each hatch releases more enemies
onto the battlefield until you destroy it. Make passes under the ship, shooting
the hatches. If they close, then just dogfight some more until Bill informs you
that they're open again.
Once all four hathces explode, the core of the ship will appear. Make a couple
of passes while shooting the core. It should go down no problem and you'll be
in good shape!
***************************************
****************
**BOSS: BACOON**
****************
FROM: AQUAS
A clam with a problem, he's not that hard to beat.
He'll open up and expose his weakspot for you to see- it's a bright green eye.
That's your goal, so now you just have to expose it. First, fire torpedoes at
the top of the clam and take out the cannons on the top of its shell. Once they
die, start using LASERS (Ha, lasers!) on the two fleshy pillars. When they
turn irridescent, fire a torpedo to collapse them. The shell breaks in half.
Now you can properly attack the actual boss. His eye is covered by a fleshy
exterior that you must destroy. So, fire lasers at the lump until the eyeball
appears. Fire a torpedo into the eye to damage it. Do that until he dies.
Of course, there's a small complication- with each successive hit, Bacoon begins
to spew more and more pearls at you, which while being generally harmless are
REALLY good about stopping the torpedo from hitting the eye.
SO, take out the pearl spewers. Launching some torpedoes at them will destroy
them, and while it's not permanent, it lasts long enough for you to get a
torpedo in without any worry about the pearls stopping it.
Rinse and repeat until Bacoon is no more.
***************************************
*****************
**BOSS: SPYBORG**
*****************
FROM: SECTOR X
It has two shining yellow eyes that open and close. When the eyes are open, it's
your job to shoot them. The boss starts out fairly simply. It fires beams from
its head while you shoot at the eyes. That's all it'll do until you get it down
to about half health. Once it gets to half health, it will declare "Where is
the creator?" and will fire its rocket-propelled hands at you. Fox, being a
total moron, asks "What's he saying?" repeatedly as the robot keeps saying
"Where in the creator?" Keep firing as the eye appears and don't lose your
patience with Fox's broken record speaking.
Finally, just before the HP runs out, its head will explode. However, it's not
dead, of course. "The view is clear", it says. If you've been looking at the
boss picture, it's a red eye, not two yellow ones. Well, now in the place where
his "head" was before there's an indentation. In that indentation you can see
a little red eye. THERE HE IS! Shoot at the eye until he dies. Shouldn't take
much time at all. Just dodge the debris that he's chucking at you.
If for some reason you can't do it, Slippy will attempt to kill the machine, and
it will smack his ship and cause him to crash on the nearby planet of Titania.
You still have to kill it, though. Honestly, if you know the weakpoint, it's
almost impossible not to kill it before Slippy gets smacked.
***************************************
*****************
**BOSS: VULCAIN**
*****************
FROM: SOLAR
This boss is apparently a living thing of some sort... Beats me how that's
possible, but that's what they tell me.
Your first target is the arms- Shoot them until they die. It will fire
rocks at you so as to give you a steady supply of health (your HP will continue
to go down during this fight). It swings its arms at you, so do your best to
avoid his swipes. Oh, and he likes creating waves. You can either dodge them
or brake. Braking allows the wave to fall back down before it gets to you. Its
best to use the two in conjunction.
Once you destroy the arms, your job is to move on to the head. It will add
some variety to its attacks. It will launch a myriad of fireballs at you that
you have to do your best to dodge (that, or make sure to get lots of silver
rings). He'll also jump up and splash, sending tons of rocks flying at you, as
well as a HUGE wave. Dodge to the left, or dodge to the right, depending on the
wave, or take TONS of health. Destroy those, yawn, and keep going. Shouldn't
take you very long to destroy his head, especially with hyper lasers.
***************************************
********************
**BOSS: SARUMARINE**
********************
FROM: ZONESS
A pirate who seems to have a mild "slowness" to him, he's the most unique
boss you'll fight in this game, because you DON'T use lasers on him for a
majority of the fight.
As the name suggests, he's a submarine captain and he pilots a heavily armored
sub. First and foremost, learn a basic fact- lasers cannot harm him. His armor
is too thick. However, you have more powerful weapons than lasers to use... you
might have noticed that he fires cannonballs at you, and by shooting them, you
get a bomb. HINT, HINT! Use bombs!
So, that's the key to beating him, but first let's talk about his attacks. He's
got the cannon balls, and those are ridiculously easy to take care of as a laser
blast destroys them for a bomb. Oh, remember those depth charges from earlier?
He drops those, so dodge them. He also has a long ball on a chain that you
need to deal with. You really shouldn't have a problem dodging it, though. Just
pay attention and you'll have no problem.
First off, you see that double smokestack on the front of it? Pop those off
with a bomb or two. Once they fall off, it's time to get rid of his gun turrets.
A bomb will blow them off and make them sink. Shoot one off, and he'll turn
around and use the crane on the back of his machine to pick it back up. Pump
some bombs into it and destroy the crane. If he pulls the gun turret back up
before you manage, that's OK- just knock it off again! Once the crane is gone,
the turret sinks for good.
Now, you knock off that last turret. However, before you do that, grab some
bombs- it's your chance to get up to 9 bombs without worry. Once you're ready,
blow the second one off.
Sarumarine will behave like the attack carrier did, flying backwards in a large
arc and coming back at you with an attack. NOW you can use lasers. Use them
until he falls. He doesn't have much to throw at you- lasers, his ball on a
chain. Beyond that, he's a joke. End his misery and make him stop that wicked
laughter.
***************************************
*********
**GORAS**
*********
FROM: TITANIA
First thing's first- don't shoot slippy. Instead, shoot the hands that appear
above the sand. He'll submerge and reappear with his WHOLE BODY up. Avoid his
claws- two slash at you and two fire lasers at you. Keep shooting his arms until
Slippy is finally freed.
With all of his arms gone, it's just a matter of shooting the boss's heart. He
starts moving around violently, trying to smash you with his tail, as well as
firing lasers in your general direction. Lob some bombs, some charged shots, and
bascially just unload into the boss until he dies.
***************************************
******************
**BOSS: MECHBETH**
******************
FROM: MACBETH
***************************************
****************************************
**BOSS: STAR WOLF, PIGMA, LEON, ANDREW**
****************************************
FROM: BOLSE
***************************************
****************
**BOSS: GORGON**
****************
FROM: AREA 6
***************************************
***********************
**MINI-BOSS: GOLEMECH**
***********************
FOUND: VENOM 1
***************************************
*************************
**BOSS: ANDROSS ANDROID**
*************************
FOUND: VENOM 1
***************************************

**BOSS: STAR WOLF, PIGMA, LEON, ANDREW**
****************************************
FOUND: VENOM 2
It's a 4 vs. 4 dogfight, and each pilot has an opponent:

**ANDROSS**
***********
FOUND: VENOM 2
I still enjoy it,
though.

***** VIII. MEDALS *****
*****************************************************************************
SO, you finished Star Fox, but you want a new challenge? OK, I've got one. Beat
each level without losing a party member, and meet a certain point quota. This
is the medal system. Each level has a set number of points that you must collect
to earn a medal, and you also must keep your teammates alive for the duration.
First I'm gonna list them for you, and then some strategies to follow for
earning medals. Unfortunately, there's no level-by-level strategy, and if there
were I would have listed it in the walkthrough for that level. So, for the list:
Corneria- 150 points
Meteo- 200 points
Sector Y- 150 points
Fortuna- 50 points
Katina- 150 points
Aquas- 150 points
Sector X- 150 points
Solar- 150 points
Zoness- 250 points
Titania- 150 points
Macbeth- 150 points
Sector Z- 100 points
Bolse- 150 points
Area 6- 300 points
Venom- 200 points
Simple enough, right? HELL, no. Most of them are fairly difficult to get even
after practicing. However, there are some tips to help you along:
-USE CHARGED SHOTS. Any time you wipe out a group of enemies with a cluster
shot, you get 2 points for every enemy that's killed after the first one in
that shot. So instead of getting 7 points, you get 13. It's INCREDIBLY
important to use this when trying to get a medal.
-Use bombs. Bombs take out entire waves of enemies in a shot for REALLY EASY
points. If you think that you can take them out with charged shots without
letting one get by, fine, but bombs are usually the way to go. As I mentioned,
the prime example of that is the mine fields of Area 6, where bombs can rack
you up 100 points in a matter of seconds.
-Destroy scenery. Oddly enough, scenery tends to rack up some serious points for
you. Boxes, flying debris, buildings, et cetera. Don't ever assume it can't
be destroyed until you've tried to destroy it.
-IF IT MOVES, SHOOT IT. Number one rule- don't let them escape! THEY MUST DIE!!
If you get all of the medals, you will unlock a harder campaign in which your
ship takes double damage. Fox will also sport some killer shades.

***** X. MULTIPLAYER *****
*****************************************************************************
This game has excellent single player, but we mustn't forget the multiplayer
aspect. It has a versus mode as well. It's comprised of a whopping two levels,
too- Sector Z and Corneria.
You get to pick a level, and you get to choose how many players you want. The
controller slots that are plugged in determine which player is which.
Port 1 is Fox
Port 2 is Peppy
Port 3 is Slippy
Port 4 is Falco
You then get to pick between three different vehicles- Arwing, Landmaster, and
on foot. However, you must earn them. You get Arwing by default, Landmaster by
getting a medal in Venom in normal, and Walking by getting a medal in Venom in
the hard campaign.
There are several play styles- you can play until someone gets X kills, until
someone has lost X lives, or until X time has passed. Whatever you choose, best
of luck to you!
Beyond that, there's not much to say. Some tips are as follows:
1) If your friend chooses air, do the same. You can't win if they go by air
and you go by land...
2) Your opponent is MUCH smarter than some computer. Make FULL use of brakes,
loops and U-turns. Get away from your opponent as best as you can.
3) Grab the items. One bomb and laser upgrade can be on the field/ in someone's
inventory at a time. If you get a bomb, lock onto someone and fire. It does
RIDICULOUS damage to them and will give you a very large edge. The lasers
allow you to take them down with half the effort, too.
It can be mountains of fun if you're a good sport, and it's sometimes fun to
use Arwing against Fox on foot... unfair? Yeah, but it's still fun.
