In each section, there are four exit points. Only one will get you further into the forest, while the others will return you to the beginning. Try to cope with the endless enemies that try to pick a fight with you. Pay attention to the scenery! In some areas, Mario will have a "!" over his head when he walks near bushes or patches of mushrooms. Have Mario check each bush until you find one that responds differently. Take the exit point directly adjacent to that bush.
In other areas, the scenery will be unresponsive to Mario's presence, except for at one point. In these areas, when the scenery does respond (like a tree laughing at you), take the exit point right by that scenery.
You'll probably go through about six areas before you make it to the big mansion.

statusYou want to look for anything unusual. Bushes that move when others don't and other things like glowing eyes will indicate you are near the right path.
