Paper Mario
Review by Bass260
"The N64's only RPG, and one of the best of all Time!"
Paper Mario was a game for the Nintendo 64, that came out a little late. It didn't get as much attention as it should have, because it came out in the N64's late life, but still is one of the best turn-based RPG's ever. It got a sequel Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. This was supposed to be a sequel to the highly acclaimed Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, but a change in plans came along. Now what your here for, my review of the game!
Story 10/10
It had a perfect story, that was easy to follow and flowed along perfectly. So one day Mario gets a letter from Princess Peach, saying to come to a party at the Royal Castle. Many special people which you meet on your adventure are there at the castle too. You go in to the castle, and then Princess Peach takes you to the stairs. You will never believe this though. Bowser's castle is right under Princess Peach's castle! Bowser makes the castle rise into the sky, and as usual, Bowser flys through the window in his flying Koopa Clown Balloon thing. You fight him, but he wins because he obtained the magical Star Rod, which makes him more powerful than ever. Bowser takes Princess Peach, and hits Mario, and Mario goes flying out the Window, into some Goomba Village place. Mario falls in this place, and the 7 Sacred Stars message Mario from far away, and say...... well you will just have to find out the rest, when playing the game!
Game Play 10/10
Come on, it's an RPG game! Everyone has to love them, and especially this one. Like in every RPG, you gain Levels. In this one you do gain levels too. Every level you gain, you are allowed to raise a certain stat by one. There is 3 stats. The first one is Hit Points (HP). If you have a lot of HP, you won't die as easy. The next one is Flower Points (FP). The more FP you have, the more powerful moves you can use. If you have badges on, you can do more powerful moves, but you need FP to use them, so FP is important too. Lastly Badge Points (BP). The more BP you have, the more badges you can wear, and the more badges you can wear, the more moves you can attack with. As I said before, badges is a big part of the game. badges add a lot to the game, and some are hard to find, and very fun to find. There is multiple enemies you get to face, and quite a few bosses too. The is a little challenging at some points, and the last boss can be very challenging if you haven't leveled up enough. Did I mention how you level up yet? It is a very clever idea they used. Every time you defeat an enemy, you get star points. If you get 100 Star Points, you will earn another level. The harder the enemy is, the more star points you get. If you don' know what a turn-based RPG is I will explain. A turn-based RPG game, is a game where you attack, then the enemy attacks, and so on. Also you obtain partners that help you defeat Bowser, and his gang. The controls are easy to use, and blend in with the game. Now lets move on, shall we?
Graphics 10/10
I guess you already know what the graphics look like. It's Paper Mario! Every thing is made out of Paper in the game, and is well designed. It is quite cool, when you press a switch, and since it's Paper, it can twist and turn, or just rip it's self apart. The cool thing is, is that the game is in 3D. The game is Paper, but a 3D world, with a sense of 3D Paper Graphics to it. It really brings back the old school you, with the Paper and 3D graphics in it. Enough Chit-Chat let us move on.
Sound 10/10
The sound adds a great touch to the game. Sometimes it plays different music every battle or sometimes the same. Still anyways the battle music rocks, and some of the special effects are great too. Each landscape, and place have its own music that fits the environment perfectly. Since there is so many places in your adventure to see, I don't think the same music will pop up again, maybe only in battles.
Replaybility 10/10
A game that will last a long time, is this. With all the leveling up, and badges to collect, trust me it will take pretty long. The real game may actually be quite a challenge as well, as collecting everything. Also you can make items, by cooking them if you know the recipe. Even if the game doesn't take very long for you, it's always fun to try to do different challenges in the game, like being the lowest level possible, or go for the best time ever.
Overall 10/10
Wow, a perfect score. As one of the best RPG games ever, I declare one of the N64's best, and definitely the best Mario RPG ever. Buy or Rent? I don't think you can rent it anymore, but you should buy it! Buy it now! if you liked Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, or any other Mario RPG game, you will like this too. Well hope you enjoyed the Review, have a nice Paper life if yuo decide to get it!
