Blues Brothers 2000
Review by Kirby1012
"Well...at least they tried."
The Blues Brothers. If I remember correctly, the movie wasn't exactly one of the best comedies ever to be produced. So why on earth did they bring out the video game?
Story - 4/10
The band are in jail and Elwood has to bust them and himself out. Not exactly enthralling, but I suppose it'll do. To be honest, Blues Brothers:2000 follows the movie quite well, which to be honest, isn't saying much.
Gameplay - 2/10
Ah. Gameplay. Imagine trying to thread a length of string through a needle in a punk rock concert with the music playing at 120dB with blinding lights flashing at you from every direction. Now multiply that by a thousand. Exactly. The camera is truly on of the worst aspects of the game. Far too many times have I experienced the camera whizzing into the wall for reasons known only to itself, leaving me with a blank grey screen. Brilliant. The controls themselves are actually almost quite decent. Almost. The levels are quite large and there is a decent amount of places to go. However, to proceed to the next level, you must collect EVERYTHING in the level you are on, which I just can't be bothered to do.
Graphics - 6/10
Amazingly, the graphics are actually okay. Elwood runs and walks smoothly and the scenery and background aren't too blocky. Just above average.
Sound - 4/10
The sound is very average and can become extremely irksome after a while. There aren't exactly any memorable tunes and it doesn't quite etch any melodies into the back of your skull, unlike Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time, which truly does deliver some spectacular sound.
Value - 3/10
After dragging yourself through this pile of misery once, playing the game again is out of the question. It is simply just something that you do NOT want to do unless you are either a) devoid of all emotion or b) blind. Playing the game once is enough for anybody. Even multiplayer doesn't provide enough entertainment to last for more than 5 minutes.
Conclusion:
Just don't get this game. That's all there is to it. Unless you enjoy hours of mind-numbing boredom and frustration, stray away from one of the bigger evils of the N64.
