Duke Nukem Zero Hour
Review by Luke
"What a game!"
INTRODUCTION:
Duke Nukem Zero Hour is a really well developed game it delivers graphics, sound, controls and a almost excellent gameplay. The reason i say almost ''excellent'' is in my review don't let that stop you from dishing out Duke. This game is really cool you will enjoy it, if you are willing to sit through the whole thing and you are not a touchy gamer this game will amaze you! Now check out my review!
GRAPHICS-10 You better believe they should deserve a 10! If you remember correctly in Duke Nukem 64, the game took a more of a 2d, first person persona. Not here! The game is in 3d! not to mention it has switched to a 3rd person perspective an incredibly smart move! This game really draws you to the screen the graphics are much more detailed than those of Duke 64. The aliens don't look so much like 2d cardboard cutouts, and it finally adds more flare to the game. Instead of looking at a dull surrounding you are introduced to a real true enviroment filled with depth, and quality! The graphics are stunning!
CONTROLS-10 The controls are slightly improved over the last Duke Nukem game and in 3rd person it is easier to see your movements. You can jump just like in the original, you can also strafe left or right and it is really a work of art. There is also up to 8 different controls, which is great if you are suited to a different style. But when you put the control style to ''duke'' it is simply a joy! Duke Nukem Zero Hour provides a great new feel to controls and it shows!
SOUND-10 Music, and sound effects are awesome! The music has a beat that shapes a mood to each level and makes it more fun to play! Duke's voice sounds clear and not muffled like in Duke Nukem 64. The aliens sound great, from the transporting noises to the gun effects. There are also more of those duke phrases we have come to love duke for such as ''squel piggy squel'', and ''fresh hardware'', along with many new ones, and ones used in the previous Duke Nukem. It really comes through with sounds!
GAMEPLAY-8 This game does provide an awesome gameplay. With more human interaction, more objectives, better and bigger levels, cool screen shots, more detail in levels like... cop cars in the streets, malls, burger places and etc. Smarter enimies, better weapons, better story line, and the list keeps on going! Now i must say that there is a price to pay for all the glits, and glamor and it is such a small thing but by the looks of things this small thing did effect the score of gameplay a little more than it should have. The thing is there are no save points along the way of a mission. You may start a level and almost be done when suddenly 3 aliens pop out and drain your life to 0. So then you must think oh well i'll start out right where i died. NO! it just couldn't work like that you have to start all over again, and in this game some of the missions are pretty tough. You need to be a little more patient for this game than most other games. So think to yourself, I will not throw down the controller and take a hissy fit. Just boost your patience level a little more for this game and it should make up for this problem. There is also another problem, no co-operative mode. It might have been more fun to add this but it is okay beacause the multiplayer mode is there, and it is really fun and rewarding! So remember this phrase while playing- ''It's just a game'' and you should be able to fill this gap. Heck they could have put a checkpoint in the game!
RENT- GO and rent it it will give you a new flavor to duke.
BUY- Buy this game and enjoy! remember- ''patience pays off''
