Mario Party
Review by Mega man Forever
"Mario Party-- the first one is the best one!"
The game starts you out on a menu screen... obviously if you've played mario party before you would know what it was but if you haven't ever you should start playing. The game is good, although it has no minor flaws in my opinion, it is worth a purchase. I say that in my ears of experience with this game that this is one of the most if not the most fun game to play with other people once you get used to the game. The game gives you an overwhelmingly positive experience, and lots of people have fun with it. I recommend getting it if you want a offline multiplayer game.
There is no doubt in my mind what nintendo wanted to create with this game. Nintendo wanted to create a positive experience for gamers by creating a party game. I think the purpose of the game is to let gamers have fun with their favorite nintendo characters. I always wondered what it would be like to see peach partying with mario... but I don't know about you but that's just me.
I fail to see why people dislike some games because they think they are rehashes of other games. If people think like that they will miss out on this game and it's a great game in a great series. I prefer mario party over any other multiplayer game, except maybe halo. Mario Party for me has earned a rank as one of the best games of all time. I rank it as a five for me... but that's because I've only been playing games since 1991.
The gameplay- 10/10
You clear maps and place in first by getting all of the stars you can. There is a mode called mini game island that you can beat by completing all 50 mini games. Plus, there are unlockable items and songs as well that you can get. The multiplayer in this is awesome. You'll have to find out for yourself how good it is. I really liked the gameplay because it puts you in a test of wits against your opponents and your computers. The computers are smart but I set them at an easy level to promote competition between the players. I prefer to play on adventure mode. Even though I play mini game Island some of the times, I only play that when I need to train a specific mini game. I never played mini game Island for practice of some minigames until I beat all of the mini games because as you play mini game Island you can lose life and if you lose all of your life you go back to your last checkpoints. I didn't like how I had to go through so many check points to clear some mini games and I had to go back to some... it's annoying because you have to start at the beginning of the mini game world (like when you start at 1-1, and you get to 1-5r, and you lose you have to go back to 1-1). I didn't like that. That's the main part I did not like. There is a juke box mode where you can listen to other songs and you can hear other songs from the mini games being played. You can buy items with stars you get, and eventually you will have enough stars to buy a board. In one case, you will have to buy a board, but I recommend not buying it until you feel like playing competitively. You'll find out what I mean when you play the game.
Graphics- 8.5/10
Not exactly the best, but not too shabby for the N64. They were especially not bad from what I thought at the time. The graphics could have been better but they look rushed. They made this before they had cell shading and other fancy kinds of graphics so I don't want you to be to disappointed with the graphics. The graphics are as they are. The graphics will stay that way, and asking the yelling that mario party's graphics are bad is not going to change how the game looks like. So don't complain about them, complaining will not do a thing. So, I recommend that you should enjoy the graphics, because they were eye candy at the time. IT was a 3D board in a 3D world in a video game. I mean, 10 years ago, what more could you ask for?
Sound- 9/10
The sound is good enough not to make you want to turn the volume down while you're playing it... just none of it is bad. I can't find flaws with the sound of the game. If you can, well I don't know what to say then.
Rent or buy?
Buy. This game is a must have for your N64 collection. I recommend anyone who likes multiplayer games this game. I recommend that you go to your nearest game store and buy a copy of this or if you can go on ebay and get one or goto any other store nearby that sells used games to get this. I recommend it because it is worth the purchase and you'll be playing it years after you get the game for the first time. You will not sell this game... and plus you cannot rent it anymore in usual stores so it's a buy.
