Mischief Makers
Review by Mike8787
"A great N64 Game!"
Mischief Makers is a classic scrolling RPG. In this game, a robot named Marina travels to the Planet Clancer to save her owner, Professor Theo. Traveling through level after level of Clancer Monsters, Puzzles, and problem solving, this game keeps a player on their toes. Figuring out secret moves, using strange vehicles, fighting hard bosses, and racing through levels to get to next, exciting level is only a small piece of what this game is, truly.
Gameplay-9/10-This game was truly amazing. From superjumping through the air, finding your way through the Clancer Carnival, or playing dodge pall with a cat, you always have some new, and interesting obstacle to face. I found each level to give me a new challenge, and new faces.
Soundtrack-8/10- This game is so entertaining, while I played, I truly did not notice the music. When I sat down to write this review, I turned the game on, and listened to a few levels. The music was pretty good, but not to the level as the rest of the game. Still, good music!
Graphics-10/10- Who said scrolling is bad? I'd rather have 2D than 3D anyday. But what makes the graphics so good is the backrounds. They look like true works of art. Not only do they look good, the backround and foreground work together to give the effect that Marina is moving. It is truly dazzling, and like there are three separate screens. The characters graphics are good, but the animation of the characters is phenomenal. From a crying man with Elvis hair to an excited boy jumping in anticipation, everyone has an expression.
Storyline-8/10-A good storyline, but a little too obvious at times. Some people say just the right thing to keep the story going, and some people totally surprise you. Many times it seems the levels are just there to be obstacles, but it is fun, nonetheless.
Monsters-8/10- There was only one problem I found with the monsters: they looked exactly like the citizens! Though I rarely was killed, I often found myself at low hit points. This kept me on my toes for monsters, and made the game more enjoyable. The range of monsters, from a bouncing tomato with a crown to Cowboys, I loved every one.
Secrets-10/10- Searching for yellow gems sent me on an exciting quest to search every level from corner to corner. Some secrets leave you with no gain, just knowing that you found it, but many reward you with gems.
Replayability:9/10-You can replay this game over and over, but once a level is searched up and down, you can only redo what has been done before. Still, some boards just call to be redone, and some levels are just too fun not to replay. Good replayability anyways.
Buy or Rent?Rent first, then if you like it, buy it. I do not own this game, but wish I did. This game presents the buyer with hours of gameplay and a deep storyline. Don't wait to purchase this game!
