WCW vs. NWO: World Tour
Review by j.j.
"For a first try at a N64 wrestling game, this isn't half bad!!"
For a try at a wrestling game for the Nintendo 64, THQ didn't do a half bad job at it.
Gameplay:Very easy controls that you will get used to very quickly. The specials are very easy as well. The computer AI can get a little cheap at times though.
9/10
Sound:No commentary, but some tunes to keep you busy for a while. They might get annoying after a while though. A little to quiet perhaps for a wrestling game. There aren't any ring entrances or music for you're wrestler either.
8/10
Graphics:The wrestlers don't look half bad, but are blocky. Sometimes there is bad detection collision too, but for a THQ wrestling game you'll get used to it fairly quickly at the same time. Not half bad all in all.
7/10
Story:There's not much of a story, but there's a few modes that will keep you busy for a while. There's a WCW vs NWO mode where 5 WCW Wrestlers and 5 NWO wrestlers battle in a tournament type mode against each other. There's also a league mode where you fight for the WCW Cruiserweight title, Tag Team and Championship. NWO (Soulded Out) is Tag and Championship. IU is I believe Cruiserweight and World. DOA is World, Cruiser and Tag. Them you unlock a WW one with Cruiserweight and World if you beat all of the others. You can beat it on easy, medium or hard and it will still unlock it. There is also 1-on-1, tag team, a battle royal and handicapp mode. There is also a round robin tournament mode and a tournament mode where you can either play, skip and see who wins, watch it or do all 3!! Pretty good amount of modes. In the leauge mode you also unlock a few wrestlers who add to the roster, and there's a fair amount of wrestlers in the game as well. Some wrestlers are missing which would add to the game and there is not create a wrestler feature which is a minor flaw as well. There are also no entrances or music for your wrestler, but that's alright considering this is THQ's first wrestling game.
9/10
Replay Value:Once you've unlocked everything, there's not need to do it again unless you want to do it on a different difficulty, or if you want to play it with a few friends, or just to try it one more time is about it. It is addicting though.
8/10
Buy Or Rent:If you're a big time wrestling fan and you want a good WCW game, you might want to buy this from a used rack, but there are better games out there such as WCW/NWO Revenge, WWF Wrestlemania 2000 and WWF No Mercy. The newest game is WWF No Mercy. Definately a rent for anyone who even isn't a fan of wrestling though.
Overall:
Gameplay:9/10
Sound:8/10
Graphics:7/10
Story:9/10
Replay:8/10
