Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine
Review by MONSTERMAN1960
"Were the playtesters blind?"
Well, when I first herd this game was coming to the 64, I was very happy. I heard good things about the pc game. But you could only buy it on Blockbuster.com or Lucasarts.com so I waited for Christmas. And I got it for Christmas! It made me so happy. But was it worth it. Read on to find out.
Gameplay: Well, the controls are very good, using the Zelda 64 style. I have only played Zelda 64 a few times, so it took a while to get use to the controls. But buy the end of the first level I got it down. This game is a puzzle game, making it very hard. It does have guns, but it is a puzzle game. Each level is very big and hard, making for a long game. Rating: 7
Story: A high point of the game, the story is good enough to be the 4th Indy movie. The basics of the plot is that Indy learns that 4 Infernal Machine parts are somewhere in the world and he decides to find them. Each one does it's own special thing. You need them all to defeat the final boss. Rating: 8
Video: Well, the game does have a good framerate, and good graphics. Other than that it is horrible. The game should freeze on you once per level at least, and that can make you very mad. Not only that, but there are also many, many bugs. I have had times when Indy is invisible in the cinema. And in one an old ladies' face turned blue and green in lines in a cinema and it was like that for the rest of the level. I have ran across a floor and I can see thru the floor! I think they sent us the beta version of the game, not the finished version of the game. I think the people who bought it should get something for spending $50 and getting a game that you want to destroy. If you don't mind lots of bugs in videogames, then this game will be ok for you. Rating: 4
Audio: This is better than the video! The game's music is good. The Indy theme kicks in every once and a while, when you discover something major, or do something, but I have yet to hear the full theme. All the guns sound alike in this game, lowering the score. But the voices of the characters are cool. Other sounds made(like lava, footsteps, birds, ect.) are also very good. Rating: 8
Replayability: With 17 huge levels you will be playing this game for awhile. But after you beat those 17 levels, there is nothing else to do. There is no multi-player:(, and I think it would have been very cool if it did. There may be a few levels that you will play over after you beat the game, but not many. Rating: 6
Total rating: 6
Rent or buy: Well you can't buy it new anymore(save for places like ebay) but if you like puzzles or Indy you may want to give this one a try at blockbuster and if you like it get it used there when they have it. If you don't like puzzle games, Indy, or have this game for the PC you may want to rent it, but I don't think you will want this game.
