WWF No Mercy

Review by Larcen Tyler

"Expect no mercy!"

When it comes to wrestling games, favorites are usually far and few, save for occasional things like WWF Raw, as well as oldies such as Pro Wrestling for the NES and a similar one for the Atari 2600! After seeing Warzone, I thought that wrestling was going to become just another type of fighting game. Then I saw WWF No Mercy and discovered that wrestling is back in style, and with no mercy whatsoever!
Running on the engine that powered Wrestlemania 2000, which was already a good game within itself, it seems that they took something that was already great within itself, added some new features to it, and made a good game even better! Now that's what I call working with NO MERCY!

Graphics: 10/10
Although they're a little jagged around the edges, and some facial animations would be nice, they look great all-in-all. If you choose bloodshed, you'll see the bloodshed in a real big way! Each wrestler has up to four different costumes and several taunts, and every move looks so perfect if it were any more real you'd be in a hospital bed!

Sounds: 5/10
This is a cartridge so sound space can be limited. Unfortunately, the voices are limited merely to a referee and some occasional groans and yells from the wrestlers, as well as standard crowd noise. All smack talk will have to be voiced by the players, sadly. The music does set the mood rather well, but it's lost within the crowd noise, which sometimes gets a little out of hand.

Controls: 10/10
With so many wrestlers inside just one game, you'll be glad to know that there's an easy way to get the lowdown on their moves! Each one is simple to pull off, yet looks incredible! From simple things like turnbuckle smashing, to signature moves like the People's Elbow, everything is replicated in a completely realistic manner! Even button mashers can pick this game up and play it with ease!

Replay: 10/10
You can play a championship mode with branching paths depending on how you play, create your own Pay-Per-View, even create your own superstars and stables! Whether you're doing a guest referee match or Royal Rumble, there's bound to be something for everyone!

Overall: 10/10
Whatever you're looking for in a wrestling game, WWF No Mercy should have it for you. If you're new to wrestling or think you could be a professional, then try picking this game up today. Just remember that, no matter how much you beg, no matter how much you fight it, there will definitely be no mercy whatsoever!
