007: The World is Not Enough
Review by J Dawg007
"Note to Rare: DON'T STOP MAKING BOND GAMES!"
Well, well, well......Lookie what happens when Rare doesn't make a Bond game. I mean come on now, Goldeneye was one of, if not the biggest hit on the N64, and they followed that up with Perfect Dark, another of the greatest games. Everyone (almost, there's a few braindead people out there) loved these games, so why wouldn't Rare make TWINE? They could've done so much with it, but no, Electronic Arts of all companies has to come in and make it, along with Eurocom. Last thing I heard Eurocom do was Machine Hunter on PSX.....Anyway, what do you get when EA and ECom team up? You get this...the worst Bond game ever.
I guess one of the main pluses of this game is that it follows the movie stroyline better than Goldeneye did, and this is complete with cinematic sequences. Wow, if you want to follow the storyline, watch the damn movie (pretty good movie might I add). The only other major plus to this game is the weaponry, there's a decent variety of guns to choose from, and some have extra features, such as the silencer for the P2K. A minor plus is that you can have more than 5 objectives on one mission, unlike Goldeneye. Ooh, ahh, maybe if these extra objectives were in a good game........
Now we'll take a look at the multiplayer mode...or should we even bother? You can't save your character's stats (i.e. Perfect Dark), you can only choose certain weapon sets, not specific weapons (also i.e. Perfect Dark), and you can only have 4 players total, unlike....yes, Perfect Dark. Well, after closing out the multiplayer mode never to open it again, I said ''Oh well, at least I'll unlock the All Guns code and have fun shooting civilians''. I checked my favorite cheat site, and found, much to my dismay, there are no Single Player codes, only Multiplayer......so I decided not to bother even trying to earn them. wow, beat a level in 2:00 and you get extra skins, yipee.
While the weapons and gadgets are the main plus in this game, everything else falls very short of my expectations. Come on EA, you can do better than this.
Graphics: 4/10
Well now, the guns look nice, the people and surroundings don't. If you have an expansion pack......the game really doesn't change, it just looks slightly better.
Sounds: 5/10
Eh, the guns sound nice, the people's screams are ok I guess, and the voice overs........we won't get into it. I still liked the ''You Bitch!'' From Perfect Dark.
Story: 7/10
(This does not affect the final score, since I'm basing this on the movie's story) The movie had a pretty good story to it, Bond gets laid and saves the world from this terrorist guy who can't feel pain.
Replay Value: 1/10
The multiplayer made this section lose points, it would've had a 2....the only thing I found replayable is going and killing hostages and such for fun, oh well.
Overall: 3/10
I think a 3 is generous here, but since it's Bond I had to be a bit lenient. Note to Rare: DON'T STOP MAKING BOND GAMES! Note to EA: STOP MAKING GAMES! That is all, goodbye.
To those who care enough to read this: I don't hate EA, I just think it was a major mistake letting them make this game. EA should concentrate more on sports games, like Mutant League Football, which is the greatest football game ever.
