Pokemon Puzzle League
Review by zackary
"Great Pokemon Title, better than Pokemon Puzzle Challenge for Gameboy Color and Tetris Attack for Gameboy!"
-=Another Zackary Review!!=-
OK. Pokemon Puzzle League is a game of the puzzle genre for the Nintendo 64. In my opinion, it is better than the similar-in-gameplay Pokemon Puzzle Challenge and Tetris Attack. So, waiting for the review? Here it is, the Review! --dramatic music plays--...
Graphics-9.0
Nice. After the first two, three, or four seconds after you turn the N64 on, where you see a Poke ball and someone says some weird word (what was that for, Nintendo?) you see a scene with those cartoon graphics. The colors are brillant, and unless you have a really bad light reflection, you can always distinguish them. The graphics are actually pretty good for a Pokemon game.
Sound-7.8
Those ol' Pokemon tunes are the music. No lyrics, though. The sound effects are clear and nice, but get annoying after a while. I mean, every time you do a combo your character speaks, and every time a chain is performed than the Pokemon that you chose speaks! Nothing to marvel over.
Story-7.0
Man, won't Nintendo go anywhere with these Pokemon stories than Ash trying to beat out all the other Pokemon Trainers!? Just the same! Anyhow, Ash and Pikachu are relaxing at the pool, when they get a call from Prof. Oak. He wants them to play in the Pokemon Puzzle League, and they accept (what else would they do?) They run to the Pokemon Puzzle League Village, where the tournament will take place. Acceptable.
Gameplay-9.8/10
The object of one player mode is to try to make combos by making connecting rows of 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. (I'm not sure about 9. But I think so.) You can also make chains, which is where you clear some blocks, and more fall and are cleared as the result of the first cleared ones. Very fun, challenging, and habit-forming. The same goes for all modes.
Variety-9.2/10
There are lots of modes: Spa Service, Time Zone, 1P and 2P Stadiums, Mimic Mansion, and many more. And so many characters to choose from in VS. Mode! All the Gym Leaders (of kanto), Lorelei, Bruno, Ash, Gary, and more!
Buy or Rent?
A definite Buy. I guess you could rent it just to get the feel, or if you don't like Pokemon, but even if you do not like Pokemon you might like this game. I'm serious.
This game is definitely for all ages.
Thanks to CJayC for posting this. And you for reading this.
And to myself for buying it.
Signing out,
Zack
