WCW/NWO Revenge
Review by Da Ass Man
"The best WCW N64 game by far"
Forget pieces of trash like WCW Backstage Assault, this game, coming from THQ's N64 wrestling game dynasty, is definitely a worthy component. To be completely honest, I must have played this game for at least over 1,000 hours with my friends. The strange thing is that it's still not old, since the very basic strategy of punching or grappeling never die out. Although WWF Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy are out, this definitely does not pale in comparison especially with it's large variety of wrestlers. Heck, even playing as the jobbers can be fun, especially since many like Disco Inferno and La Parka were given their real life taunts, which are as fun as hell to execute. Playing against the computer is very fun, but playing against human opponents is that much better, to be honest with you, either way you can't go wrong. Just make sure you are playing exhibition matches if you go against the computer. God bless the 40 man battle royal. Now if only they could have added hill jackers in the crowd that chant ''Goldberg''.
Gameplay: 10/10 - whereas most wrestling games fail to combine attacks, blocks, grappels, and dodges so that no one category is dominant, Revenge keeps the guessing game alive, but also allows you to mix up your attacks - which may be the main reason this game is fun. The reversals are all good as well, although some cheap computer opponents will reverse EVERYTHING you throw at them. I can't find a single problem with the gameplay. Virtually all non-THQ wrestling games are putrid, thank the Gods that this game was brought into existence.
Sound: 9/10 - I wasn't expecting much, but everything here is good. Maybe hearing announcers would have been nice, but I doubt so because it made Warzone worse than if no sound was there at all. I do wish you could hear people scream more when they are in submissions :)
Graphics: 10/10 - Once again, the wrestlers and the moves all look spectacular. No complaints, meaning everything is good. Dateless teenage males will be more than happy to see that the women (Kimberly and Miss Elizabeth) are given nice bodily features. Hey, that's not a controller in your pocket!
Originality: 10/10 - This game kept in all the good things and changed all the bad stuff such as not being able to run with a weapon, quick ring entrances, 40 man battle royal, and realistic computer opponent matches. What more could you want?
Replay Value: Honestly, this game has an endless replay value, I still love it. If for nothing else, than for the beat down of jobbers of the past such as Disco Inferno, Psicosis, La Parka, etc. Also, beating down Hogan never gets old.
Overall: The only thing this game is missing is nudity (just kidding) and a create a wrestler mode, and the 2 sequels more than made up for that. The only reason I would tell you not to buy it is because Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy are even better, but if they didn't exist, this would no doubt be the best wrestling game for the N64. Buy it at a bargain bin if the opportunity arises.
