Bomberman 64: The Second Attack!
Review by DreThug
"Bomberman 64? This game would have been good on if it came out before the first Bomberman!"
I remember back in 1995....wait was it 1996....or was it 1997? I'm pretty sure it was one of those years when I first purchased Bomberman 64. Bomberman 64 was a great multiplayer game, that I played it A LOT with friends, but a really shiatty single player game. I remember playing the single player once for about 5 minutes and then I got tired of it. So after a few years I heard of Bomberman 64: The 2nd Attack. I was thinking to myself, well this game might actually be better then the first version. Well, I was wrong. Very Wrong.
The graphics in Bomberman 64: The 2nd Attack are disgraceful. Even if I'm use to the next generation console graphics (ie. Dreamcast) I still know that Nintendo 64 can produce games with beautiful graphics. (ie. Perfect Dark) Now, after 3, 4, or 5 years since the Nintendo 64 came out I would expect Bomberman 64's: The 2nd Attack graphics to be better than most 1st generation titles. Sadly, it reminds me of games from back in the day. The graphics are REALLY grainy and bland and the environments aren't even in full 3d. For some reason, this game reminds me more of a Super Nintendo game than a Nintendo 64 game.
Bomberman games are known for their multiplayer modes. Everyone who knows anything about video games should know that. So what should you expect from this new version of the Bomberman series? Let's see...A shiatty one player mode with very few levels and easy gameplay and a great multiplayer mode that has 5 different modes of play. Even though the environments in multiplayer mode are bland (especially the island level) it's still fun to play with three of your friends and see who can last the longest. There's other multiplayer modes of play that are fun, but not nearly as fun as just the original survival mode.
Control-wise, Bomberman 64: The 2nd Attack isn't bad. But let's think about this one folks? How hard is it to walk around, drop a bomb, throw a bomb, and run away. Not that hard. With Bomberman's simple gameplay control isn't a key factor.
Music in Bomberman 64: The 2nd Attack? Hmm...thinking...thinking...thinking...To tell you the truth, I didn't really recognize any music in this game. Oh wait, now I remember. A little MIDI going around when playing the multiplayer mode and little sound effects like bombs blowing up and stuff. Is it just me or is that boring?
To tell you the truth, I wouldn't waste money on this piece of crap. There are so many better games on the market that this game isn't worth your time. If you are a diehard Bomberman fan, feel free to rent this game. But trust me, make sure you rent this game before you buy it, because you will be disappointed.
