Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Review by mgsfan244
"Play This Game Right Away!"
Story:
You play as Luke Skywalker in the events between Star Wars: A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. You will commence in dog-fights, defend convoys, steal secret Imperial technology, and defend whole cities.
Graphics: 10/10
Some of the best graphics seen on the N64 ever! True, the pilots do look like something from Paper Mario, but the landscapes and the ships are gorgeous! You will be in awe when you see Taloraan! (note-buy the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pack for high-resolution graphics!)
Sound: 9/10
This is one of the first games to have voice acting you can understand on the Nintendo 64. The sound of blasters, or the sound of the s-foils opening will sound like music to your ears! The music sounds like it came directly from the original trilogy, plus, with the right cheat, you can actually listen to all the music in your game in surround sound!
Controls: 9/10
The controls are well suited to dog-fighting, and thats good, because there will be plenty of that! Each ship has unique controls (ie., x-wing-close s-foils to go faster; snowspeeder-shoot the tow cable to trip AT-ATs, etc.), and with the Nintendo 64's controller, firing a missile, shooting blasters, accelerating your vehicle, and shooting missiles out of the sky are so very easy, you'll feel like a Star Wars pilot without much trouble!
Gameplay: 9/10
Finally, my favorite part about reviewing. OK, I'm giving this game a perfect on gameplay because once you play, you will not give up the controller for anyone. You will enjoy flying around while in the cockpit view, you will enjoy the sights and sounds, and you will enjoy the dogfighting with ties (many people complain about the ties being too small, but this is not true with the inside view). And pulling off your own stunts to dodge laser blasts truly gets your adrenaline going! Replayability is at an all-time high, because you can go back to missions you've already beaten. This game will really leave you in awe. My only quip about the game is that some levels may seem almost impossible near the end. But if you keep collecting the advanced technology, you can beat every level, including the secret levels.
To Buy or To Rent: BUY IT! It is very worth the forty bucks, or just buy it used, BUT EITHER WAY, BUY IT!!! Thankyou LucasArts and Factor 5 for such an awesome game!
