007: The World is Not Enough

"Badly animated PS quality shoot 'em up for N64"
Game Play
Okay, I'm not going to lie to you, this isn't a very bad game, The gameplay is rather good apart from a few little niggles here and there: The auto-aim isn't too good, sometimes you'll be standing right in front of someone who is bending down, they are clearly in your sights but you have to bring up the cross hair to shoot them, very irritating on the harder modes. The interactivity with in-game objects isn't too good, when you shoot a pain of glass it explodes into about 6 jagged (graphically around the edges not literally) triangles, no bullet holes, nothing, even Golden Eye had better effects than that. It seems this game has gone back in time! TWINE isn't an easy game either, I class myself as being rather good at shoot 'em ups, Me and Rubzo (you might read some of his reviews on this site) have completed Doom, Perfect Dark and Golden Eye but we can only get past around 6 levels. The control system is okay, nothing special apart from the default cross hair movement isn't inverted (move the stick down to move the cross hare up) like it is in most other shoot 'em ups I've played. Overall Game Play is acceptable but nothing too pretty, probably about 6/10.
Story
It's surprising how little the story and Cut scenes in the game have in common with the film and the graphics in these little movies are horrendous! I think the developers of this game just took the PS version, formatted it and shoved it onto the N64. The characters look like they've been force fed pure fat for a week, they're clumsy, juttery and extremely fat looking. Basically terrorist have stolen a nuclear missile and you have to retrieve it, this is sounding interesting isn't it! Move your way across 14, almost un-interactive levels to complete the game.
Audio/Video
Ahhhh, finally the section where this game trips and falls....off a cliff. I read somewhere that this game pushed the PS1 to it's limits, if so I'd hate to be a PS owner right now! Let us just imagine that this game had respectable graphics, maybe like that of Golden Eye, then I might just give it around 7/10 but anyway back to reality....Cut scenes. As I said before the characters are chubby and clumsy, their faces look like they've been sliced off, thrown into a blender and then stuck back on again. It's sometimes even hard to distinguish between male and female. Not very good at all, definitely not up to N64 standards or even PS ones for that matter. In game graphics....Not much better, maybe they're respectable on PS1 but not in my experience of N64 titles, again the faces are mashed and the characters are clumsy, not as clumsy as in the Cut Scenes but clumsy all the same. Now let's talk about explosions, what's that I hear you cry? There are no explosions in this game? Oh but there are, they're just very very bad! Audio is reasonable, it doesn't make up for the horrible horrible graphics, but it's good. Good gun shot sounds, good music, just good.
Re-playability
Is that even a word? Re-playability? No, if you want re-playability go buy Golden Eye or Perfect Dark, trust me, you do not want to play this again, it's painful enough the first time, but not again! If you can beat the game in all modes, I am in your honor. Please don't make me play it again!
Buy or Rent?
Maybe if you want to try your hand at a new N64 shoot 'em up you might want to rent it but before you buy it, try it! If it's your kind of game (very hard) buy it, but I urge you to reconsider! TWINE isn't worth your 50 quid, if you have it lying around go buy Perfect Dark or Golden Eye. If you have bought it and figured out the horrible truth, the cart can be cracked open and the various chips removed to provide spiky metal things to stab people with or to prop up wobbly table legs, etc.
