NFL Blitz 2000
Review by PhildotheGreat
"A great football game made even better!"
When NFL Blitz came out it was a great game at the arcade and on the Nintendo 64. The second one proves to be the same and then some!
Gameplay
This game is great! Football with no rules? Hell yeah! This is the second in the series of hard hitting football games. There is season mode where you play through a season trying to win the super bowl and exhibition where you play a single game with up to four people! This game makes for great fun with multiple people. There is now a play editor also! You can design your own plays then save them to a memory card. Once in a game you can reload them and use them. The possibilities are endless. The game is great because of its long yardage plays, beatings of the player with the ball, and its fast paced rhythm. If you are a trivia fan, at the end of every game there is a trivia question with a multiple choice answer. Another big factor in the game is the codes you can put in at the beginning of the game. It’s a lot like Mortal Kombat 3 (Midway made both games I think). There are some fun codes like big head mode, and then there are some play codes like super field goals (which enables you to try field goal attempts from anywhere on the field.)
Audio/Video
The graphics are one of the reasons this game is so great. Although the players are a little blocky they have great detail. The backgrounds and Stadiums look great too. There is also snow, rain, and fog if you put in codes or are playing in season mode and happen to get that weather. The sound is way cool. After you nail a guy, your player might get up and taunt him! “I’ll send you back to your mother in a box!”. And the commentator has great one line remarks. ''That was totally unnecessary but a lot of fun to watch!'' he says. There are neat little sound effects as well. When you bobble the ball or fumble and the hits.
Replayability
I love playing single player, let alone multi-player. Whenever you have someone over, you are playing the game. The fast hitting action just makes you play over and over and over again.
Buy or rent?
I think this game is a great buy considering most of the other Nintendo 64 games are not worth anything. Once again it comes back to the multi-player factor. You either love it for the multi-player, or hate it.
