Bomberman 64
Review by Xi
"Bomberman is brought to a new level on the Nintendo 64"
This is the first Bomberman game brought to the Nintendo 64 system and I feel that it was a good idea. In the past Bomberman never had this much of a free movement. Also I have never seen an Adventure Mode that is as fun as this one. Battling is great as well since you get the free moment in the Battle Mode.
I have always enjoyed previous Bomberman games, but this one seems to take the cake. I believe this to be because of the great Adventure Mode in this one. Also because of the freedom you have in battle.
Graphics: 9/10
The graphics are clear and great for the Nintendo 64 system. They are not distracting or choppy. I feel that the graphics were made well for a Bomberman game and the graphics fit the game well.
Gameplay: 8/10
This game has a great Adventure Mode in which you can choose from four different worlds in the beginning and then you go from level to level in that world. If you get tired of a world, then you can leave it and go to another one. Also every world has a boss that governs it and you will face throughout the world. The Battle Mode lets you play against your friends or the computer. The different stages offer multiple floors and different obstacles or feelings to them. It makes every arena different in its own way.
Story: 9/10
The story is not too hard to follow. Basically there are enemies that have come from a different planet and they want to take over the planet that the Bombermen live on. You must stop them before it is too late. You really do not need to know the story to play this game, but if you let the game sit it will illustrate and tell you some of the story so you can understand what is going on.
Sound: 8/10
The Bombermen grunt and make sounds when they pick up bombs and the sounds for everything work well with the game. The music does get annoying sometimes after awhile, but you can always listen to your own music and not have to worry about the sound. Still the sound effects for this game are great.
I will find myself coming back to this game every so often. It is a great game to play, even just for one or two levels in the Adventure Mode, in which you can do a level and then save to continue later, or to just mess around in the Battle Mode by yourself or with up to three friends.
OVERALL: 8/10
Overall I gave this game an eight. I felt that it has a lot of great points to it and it is just a fun game to play. I do come back to it every once in awhile when I am in a mood to play it. I find a lot of the sound effects to be great, but sometimes the music gets boring after hearing it for a while. The graphics suit the game well, by being not too sharp, but they are not distracting or choppy in any way that I can tell. There is a story to it, but you really don't need to know it. It is illustrated in the game, though, so if you do want to know what is going on, you can see it. This game is a great game to have in the Bomberman series and I would recommend it to anyone that has liked the previous Bomberman games or to people that are just looking for something new.
