"A cool game where you blow stuff up"
This game isn't like very many others. In this game, a nuclear carrier has gone awry, and you must keep it on a smooth course, which means you will destroy many things, as well as fillings gaps.
Gameplay (6.9/10):
The gameplay isn't too bad, although there are some flaws with it. If you get out of a vehicle and are holding a direction, most likely, no matter which direction you are holding, the character will turn around and re-enter the vehicle. Also, sometimes, the controls aren't very responsive. The camera views can be annoying too. However, most of the time, the views are very well-done, and some of the vehicles are controlled with ease.
Story (9/10):
A carrier with atomic cargo on board has sprung a radiation leak, and the carrier is out of control. It has set itself on a straight line with the original destination, which means it will cross many things, such as buildings, pits, rivers, and train tracks. So what's the problem? Just the slightest nudge will blow it all up. Original.
Graphics (8.3/10):
Ah yes, graphics. Blast Corps has some good graphics, and the explosions are usually pretty neat. In fact, there really aren't very many flaws with the graphics, but one main thing. When you blow up a section of a house, and the inside is exposed, it's just a shade of gray or blue. No detail whatsoever. That takes away some of the realism of it. But still, you get nice explosions, and the vehicles are all drawn and rendered very well.
Sound (9.1/10):
Sounds in Blast Corps are also pretty good. In fact, this just might be the best part about the game. Explosions sound relatively realistic, and most of the vehicles that actually exist in the real world sound relatively close to their real life counterparts. There isn't a whole lot of music, and some of it doesn't fit the flavor of the situation, but it's not bad, for the most part.
Challenge (9/10):
Also a high point in Blast Corps, the challenge level will...well, challenge, many gamers. Everybody will have some difficulty, especially with the later missions, and sometimes, the difficulty might even piss you off. Overall, though, most skill levels of gamers will be pleased, as there is a wide range of challenge.
Replay Value (5.6/10):
Other than the fact that you can redo the missions to destroy everything and get gold medals, and eventually open up a mode to get platinum medals, there's not a whole lot to do on a second time around.
Buy or Rent?:
Rent it first. Buying it isn't a bad idea, but you should rent it first and see if you like this type of gaming style.
