"The Boys of Summer..."

...are back in town with Acclaim's last All-Star Baseball for the N64. This game has got to be the best one for the N64 yet. I've spent plenty of hours just playing exhibition over and over and over with my little brother. I had better things to do, but hey, it's baseball! What other game can you pretend to be your favorite players? What other game can you bring in the game winning run in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs? Well, any baseball game, but this game makes it a whole lot better!

Gameplay: 10

If you love baseball, this is so the game for you. This game is much like the other two All-Star Baseball's for the N64, but it has many other differences. There's the Cooperstown Legends team, comprised of the most greatest basbeall players to ever live. With Nolan Ryan pitching fastballs at 105 MPH, you can obviously see why they kick butt. They also have Cornfields as a playable field, and they're pretty cool, that is, if you like cornfields.

Homerun Derby is great. I love blasting dingers with Big Mac and Barry. You can't beat that.

Game control: 9

The controls are pretty smooth in this game. Run and catch. Swing and hit. Simple. The C buttons each correspond to a base, so throwing is simple. You can aim where you want to hit, so that makes it a whole lot better.

Graphics/Sound: 7

The voices of the announcers get annoying, but you get used to it. And the graphics are ok, but the characters don't all look like the real people. That sucks.

Replay Value: 10+

You'll want to play this over and over and over until your hand bleeds orange.

Extras: 10

Create-a-player is the best feature of ASB 2001. I love creating and drafting myself to the Yankees, who just so happen to be my favorite team </Shameless Yankee plug>.

The season mode is great. You can make it as long as you want depending on how pressed for time you are. 13 games, 162 games, it's all good.

To rent or buy...

I bought my copy at Blockbuster for my birthday last year. I still play it today. That means go out and buy it.

This is THE baseball game for all you baseball fanatics out there. Time will fly by when you're playing it. A must have for the die-hard baseball fan.
