Review by War Pig

"This game was great! Until Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy came out..."

First there was World Tour, which was good, then, Revenge, even better, and then Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy. Now there's no point for Revenge! :(

-Graphics-
Revenge has nice graphics. They are better than World Tour's, and they pushed the graphical limits of the 64 in some points, but there's flaws. First, when the character bleeds, it always splatters on their chest, which is cool, but it would've been more fun if you could bleed in more places. And for Disco Inferno, Buff Bagwell and Goldberg, they keep this corny smile on their face, even if they are in the worst pain in their life. I think they could've made at least one more face that showed agony. There is a Costume Change section in this game, so where you can switch costumes, but it's no Create-a-Wrestler like in the others. And, with that section I have some problems in the visual areas. Say your wrestler has a tattoo, and you want another wrestler's costume, that has, say, a hairy chest. Your body shape and look will totally change based on who's costume you switch. That's pretty dumb. But, a lot of the wrestler's faces do look real, so that's good. Overall, Graphics score a 7

-Controls-
I was surprised with the setup of commands in Revenge. It is setup very nicely. Compared to any other wrestling game currently on the market, Revenge and it's ''sequels'' have the best control. You have standard movement with the D-Pad, and Taunts with the joystick (taunting raises your special meter, more on that later). L, is to Evade, and R is to Block, which is weird, because blocking is either putting up your elbows or puffing out your chest, which the computer does all the time, and would really probably hurt them worse. Anyways, Your c-buttons are to change view (look at different opponent), run, jump over a laying opponent, and enter the ring. Z can let the computer take over your wrestler, which is almost useless. Sounds messy, well try it out. Controls score a 10

-Audio-
No entrance music? You're kidding! No, there is none. There is in Mercy and 2000 though, which proves it can be done. Hitting your opponents sounds dull, like slamming a slab of meat on the grass. And, there's no announcer, either. There's just little cheap rock music. Audio scores a 4

-Depth-
All the depth there is, is just winning belts, being able to do a royal rumble, and costume change. Missing options are Season mode, Create-a-Wrestler, different types of matches instead of winning by First Blood, handicap, tag, and singles, and King of the Ring tournaments. There's more stuff that it's missing too, just check out Mercy or 2000. Depth scores a 5

-Replay Value-
If Revenge is the only wrestling game for 64 you have, then it has good replay value, but Mercy and the others have more. It's fun to Costume Change and win belts, though, so it isn't all that bad. But, let me repeat, the replay value is only good if this is the only wrestling game for 64 you have. So many other options in the others leave this game useless. Replay Value scores a 6

-Overall-
Revenge is a fun game to learn good techniques to win and kick the crap out of your friends, but it isn't worth shelling out the cash to buy/rent, when you could buy/rent the ''sequels'' No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000.
