Ken Griffey Jr.'s Slugfest
Review by Mister Ass
"Pretty good baseball game."
I will rate some stuff on this review of Ken Griffey Jr.'s Slugfest.
Graphics (9/10):
Pretty good graphics. The players look very cool, and that polygonal image from the first Ken Griffey Jr. was taken away. The stadiums look pretty cool too, but they still needed to fix that little dug-out problem (you can see the player that was taken out, but it looks like he was trespassing the walls). But I like the fact that they made the home runs easier to recognize. And I just love the way a fielder grabs some hard-looking ball.
Gameplay (9/10):
Nicely done, specially for the bat-shaped oval they use as hitting cursor. If you time it correctly you can get the ball to be hit into a certain place of the field (left, right or center). I don't know why people complain about the oval-shaped cursor.
The pitches are cool too. I still don't like the way they always put the knuckleball in these games, since there is NO WAY in real life that a pitch will go left and right while it's travelling towards the catcher.
The good old Home Run Derby. Ah, I can't forget about that. The Derby still isn't as enjoyable as in real life, and the pitchers won't pitch slowly like they do in real life (not that they pitch fast either).
The Season and the World Series are very nice. You can save them on the Game Pak :) (I know you can save them too in the earlier Ken Griffey Jr). The only thing I wish they kept from Ken Griffey Jr.'s Baseball in seasons would be the draft. There you could pick all players you wanted before any other team had a chance to draft.
And the best thing that was updated to this game was the Create a Player. Gosh, that rules. And the code entry. It's really nice that you can actually make a super player, or get TWO teams with super players (with 10 out of 10 in ALL stats).
Sound/Music (4/10):
That is the worst thing from this game. The music is really annoying, not because it sucks, but because it keeps being repeated over and over. The sounding of the bats is good, but sometimes not realistic. Sometimes it whacks like if it was going to make a small pop out but actually it gets into the out field. Sometimes it even touches the yellow pole and makes a home run! The umpires' voices are pretty bad too, because they say stuff like ''He's Out!'' ''He Got You!'' too fast. I wish they stuck with the voices of Ken Griffey Jr.'s Baseball. I won't say anything about Dave Niehaus (the announcer when a game starts or finishes) because I don't really care about him.
Should I Buy/Rent this game?
I suggest you rent it first, so you can see if you like it or not. If you like it, buy it and enjoy it. If you don't, well, you are you.
Overall: 8/10
I know I didn't average the scoring but I still give it a number 8. This game is cool in many ways, but there are still missing things from the first one...
