Snowboard Kids
Review by Donald Love 87
"A Mario Kart clone? With snowboards?"
A game like Mario Kart get many clones. Why do the ones that make the clones think that they can make people buy it?
My opinion is that this is a Mario Kart clone, it may just be my opinion, but that's my opinion.
The game is just to race around different levels, picking up power-ups to enchant yourself or to attack your opponents. One of the most interesting things about the weapons is that you have one slot for enchantments on yourself, and another one for weapons.
The weapons/enchantments vary from speed fans to frying pans. Cool equipment!
The tracks aren't exactly round. You are on a mountain, right? So if you are going for more than one lap you'll need to take the ski lift up to the top, nice idea!
This is a little strange; in addition to snow you can chose to snowboard on GRASS if you want to, these levels are wicked...
The game supports both Controller Pak as well as Rumble Pak, the only problem with that is if you wants to use both. Many switches to do...
It's all about boarding around! Ok... On to the summary...
Graphics: 8 - Very nice cartoonish graphics. It's more cartoonish than Mario Kart. The characters are nice modeled and you can choose between a lot of different board patterns.
Sounds: 7 - Also good overall. The music is nice, but the sound effects could be a little better. The speak is cool too...
Difficulty: 5 - Not really that difficult. But you'll have things to do and records to break so it'll keep you playing for a long time.
Story: X - What story? This is a racing game. A couple of kids gathering deciding to snowboard, is that enough for ya?
Control: 8 - The controls work just fine. Sometimes the board turns too slow but I think that's just my selection of board... :-(
The separate button system for the weapons and enchantments work perfectly!
Replay value: 7 - Well... records to break. A racing game always has got replay value, as long as you don't get tired of the game.
Multiplayability: 8 - This game is funniest when you have a friend around to race against! It supports four players, but that means that you'll just get a fourth of the screen, which is just too small!
TOTAL: 7 - It's a Mario Kart clone with snowboards, no doubt about it. But it's a good one, and almost in the same class as Mario Kart. Nothing for you that looks for a serious Snowboard game, but if you like these cartoonish racer games and have played Mario Kart enough; go get this!
