NASCAR 99

"A Great game for its time..."

NASCAR '99 for the Nintendo 64 is a great game. It has ok graphics for the time in which it was released. I have played many hours of this game. I have usually played multi-player with my sister, but I have done everything there is to do in this game.

The Options in this game are Quick Race. Quick race is basically you don't pick any options, you just jump right into the game. Single Race, this is like Quick Race but in here, you pick all the options, what car you want, what race track, how many players, and all the physics, and more.
Season mode is where you race an entire season, going through all the races and gathering points to bring home the season Championship. That's pretty much it, To the Review!

GAMEPLAY: 9/10

Gameplay in this game is very...outdated. The AI cars just go around and around, taking the same route every time around the track, they never mess up, well, I shouldn't say that because I have made them wreck every so often ;-).
So the gameplay consists of you going in ovals(that's right, they aren't circles everyone) Mastering this game is very difficult, because you never know how your car will re-act to anything, like if you brake to hard, you car will spin out into the infield or hit a wall. You have to time things perfectly or you will end up as road art and your tires will be flung everywhere. The thing in this game is, when you play single player, there is only 20 cars as the field, a real NASCAR field consists of 43 cars. This said, a multi-player field consists of only 8 cars, which stinks, but you will get use to it.

GRAPHICS: 7/10

The game came out in 1999, give it a break, of course the graphics won't be great. they are ok though, just it takes awhile for the background to catch up, so sometimes, your racing into a white wall. The cars look OK in this game, but not great. But, I have said it many a time, Graphics do not make the game, they only add to it.

STORY LINE: ?/10

Story line, what story line? You race around a track, it doesn't get much simpler than that.

CONTROLS: 9/10

The controls are very simple in this game. The only reason it go a 9 is sometimes the brakes don't work as well as they should, or they work to good, sending your car spinning.

RE-PLAYABILITY: 8/10

This game can last forever if you are a hard core NASCAR fan, but if your not, you will play and then the game will just drift off into nothingness. It will get many hours of play though, because of season mode and the ability to play multi-player.

LAST WORDS

I loved this game and to this day still play it (that is until I get NASCAR Thunder 2003, he he). If you own a Nintendo 64 and just a Nintendo 64 and love to play racing games and love NASCAR, I suggest you get this game, it is a good one. If you own a GC, XBOX, or a PS2, get wait until October and get NASCAR Thunder 2003. In the meantime, rent this one and have a blast.
