NBA Hangtime

"I like this game, and I hate basketball!"

This is a nice little basketball game released some time ago for the Nintendo 64. I hadn't played the prequel (NBA Jam), and I still liked it. Maybe that is the reason I like it, I don't know. Anyways, read on and I'll tell you my thoughts on this title.

Gameplay: Midway did a good job on this game. Apparently, its just like the SNES prequel, although I can't confirm this. This is an arcade simulation, so not everything is 100% correct. The game has a boost ability, which speeds up your character. You can't use it for a long time, but still, it helps too speed the game up a lot. If your into high speed sports games, this is the one for you.

Visuals: The graphics aren't great, but they aren't bad either. The players are all animated well, and the courts are nice and colourful. Midway did a decent job in this department, no complaints from me.

Sounds: This game has all the sounds of a real basketball game. While I’m not a fan, the hip-hopish soundtrack is well done also. The sound effect are all right, although there isn't much in that department. No complaints either, although, I suppose it could be better.

Fun Factor: Hang Time is a hoot when your playing with a friend. You can play a one-on-one game with him, or team up and defeat the computer players. The game gets a little hard in the later games, so I hope you have the skill too keep up! :) This game brings back great memories of me and my friend playing it, and if you buy it now, you may be remembering the memories in the future! (ok, its not THAT good...)

Replay: There are many game altering codes in this game, but besides that, there isn't that much too see. The create a player mode is neat, and time consuming. I love having a team of created players go up against a well known team. Other than that, though...

Recommendations: Into arcade sports? I defiantly recommend this game too you. Sports fans may be disappointed because its an arcade style game. If your not into basketball (like I'm not), you still may like too check this out. It makes for a very entertaining experience, or at least a few hours of fun.

This game gets a 8/10 from me... I took the points away for it's low replay value.
