Army Men: Sarge's Heroes
Review by TrueGamer14
"Little men, big missions."
-Intro-
Army Men: Sarge's heroes is the first in the series. I think is one of the best. It's a different type of game, then other army games. First of all, you're Sarge. The leader of a green force of soldiers, the Bravo Company Commandos. You're out to stop the bad guys, with a large arsenal of weapons. Caution: stay away from fire!
-Story-
8/10
A tan force has captured your company. The tan force's General, has made weapons that can kill everybody. His weapons are a garbage disposal, magnifying glass, and firecrackers. Sarge must go out and stop this madness. Be careful...
-Graphics-
8/10
The environments are very large and detailed. They consist of kitchens, back yards, living rooms, bathrooms, etc. Every area is colored in nicely, and has a nice smooth texture in it. When firing your flamethrower, the fire that comes out, looks very real, opposed to other games. Your green force is entirely, the color green. Their faces are nicely made, and look pretty good. I was surprised by how detailed everything was. You don't see that much on the N64.
-Sound-
6/10
The music in the game is good at first, but later in the game you get tired of it. Whenever Sarge fires his gun, it sounds bland and... not that great. Voices are heard everywhere, though. If a tan soldier spots you, he calls out to the other men, saying, ''He's over here!'' When a helicopter comes, you can hear the choppers. Sometimes, when getting to the end of the mission, it goes to a cut scene. The music is exciting then. But other than that, everything else sounds old and simple.
-Gameplay-
7/10
Sarge has a lot of different weapons equipped. He has the M-60's, the bazooka, flame throwers, sniple rifles, grenades, mortars, and more. I liked that you could pick a lot of different ones, because shooting the same type of weapons, just gets boring after a while. As I mentioned before, the environments are enormous. So, that means there's more gameplay. More to explore, and more ways to sneak up on a tan soldier, and melt his plastic butt! The difficulty in this game varies. In some missions, you're outnumbered 60 to 1. When one soldier dies, more find out, and they come after you. Also, the tan force plants mines across the game. So, you have to watch your step, or else you'll be dead. And how do you know where the mines are? By a Mine Sweeping Detector, of course! It's a long mine detector, that makes calm noises when searching for a mine. When it finds a mine, the noises get loud and fast. Sneaking up on the bad guys are essential. Take out that sniper rifle, go to a high place, and take 'em out. When equipped with a flame thrower, you can sneak up on someone from behind, and torch them. Watching them melt, (since their plastic) is very cool-looking. Aiming can be hard, though. When you have a rifle out, hitting a soldier from faraway can be tough. Plus, you have this tiny aimer, that I don't like at all. You have to climb a lot in this game. Sometimes, they put you right by the edge, and when you get to the top, you accidentally fall. The controls are messed up a lot. The game is sort of long, and at times hard. I liked that they have multiplayer in this. This is a good game to face your friends in. They'll probably have fun... at least mine did.
-Replay Value-
5/10
After beating the game, which will take you at least a week or so, there's no real reason to play it over again. There's no secrets or anything, except for a couple of codes you can try. But then again, there's always multiplayer. All the levels that you play in during the missions are in the multiplayer. So, you can battle your friends in the different environments.
RENT or BUY??
If you're looking for a fun army game, then buy this. It's good for a while... at least, there's multiplayer. But if you just want to rent it, then go ahead. Renting is probably the smarter thing to do. The thrills don't last forever, but this game is still pretty good. Good luck!
