WCW Mayhem

"What is this? What happened to Revenge?"

Man, Revenge was a great WCW game. It almost never got old. It had it all. Mayhem should have been great, too. SHOULD HAVE. It wasn't though. It was scary.

-Graphics: 2/10

Arguably the worst feature in the game. It does allow you to see what handicapped wrestling gorillas would look like. It also included horrible skin tones for hours of enjoyment. I've seen SNES wrestling games that looked better than this. They were more fun to play, too.

If you thought the collision detection was bad in the other games, you'll cry when you see this. I don't think you ever actually touch your opponent, you just go through them. Sometimes you'll even go through yourself. Don't even try to keep a straight face during most of the moves.

The entrances are laughable. The wrestler marches out (like a cyborg with a rod in its back), barely climbs through the ropes, and then does a horrible pose. It's kind of sad, really. It looks like they hired eight-year olds for the art department.

-Sound: 5/10

The sound wasn't that bad. A lot better than the graphics, at least. The impacts sounds when you hit the mat were the best part. I think there was some commentary. I know for a fact you hear Mean Gene a lot.

-Music: 5/10

At least the wrestlers had their own themes. Unfortunately, they're not worth playing the game for.

-Controls: 4/10

They tried to make a copy of the grappling system from before. It just doesn't work in this engine, though. You'll often find yourself trying desperately to do a simple move.

-Game Play: 4/10

Considering you wouldn't want to play this game fore more than five minutes, it gets a four. There's a couple of match modes. Like the championship mode. Then exhibition. That may be all of them.

There's a good number of wrestlers. A lot to unlock, too. They're all terrible though, so don't bother unless you like inflicting pain on yourself. And if so, you still wouldn't like this game.

There was a Create-A-Wrestler mode, but it was almost useless. You could never make your wrestler NOT ugly. Also, there doesn't seem to be the option of making your wrestler's hair black. Sure, it says it's black, but even color blind people can see that it's a dark gray. It looked like a Brillo pad on your head.

-Overall: 4/10

Basically, this game sucked. Though it was funny to play, you really shouldn't have been laughing while playing. Don't buy this unless you're really bored.
