FIFA Soccer 64
Review by Bamboozer Man
"Awesome for it's time."
The popular Fifa series goes to the N64. The verdict? Totally awesome. I don't know If I have found anything wrong with this game which is pretty cool. Here it is, my review of Fifa 64.
Gameplay-
Controls are easy to use. They are all in convenient locations and everything is easy to do. There's even an advanced control scheme for doing moves like slide tackles. There are several types of cameras and many options in the pause menu. You can actually use these to adjust difficulty. For example, you can turn off offsides and fouls and just kill everyone without penalty. It's great fun when you play like that! You can also select what formation the players on your team should be in and put in substitutes, ect. This makes the game simple yet challenging. Depending on your options and what team you play as and against, this gane can be hard or easy.. Teams are fairly close to real life, so the US isn't as good as Brazil. The soccer matches are exciting and fun, especially with the special trick which makes the crowd boo( see codes section). Overall, this game runs smoothly.
Story-
The story is this: You control a soccer team and lead them into tournaments. You try to come out on the top of the competition to win the big trophy. As you advance, the teams get slightly better. and harder to score on. Eventually you win and then you start all over.
Graphics/ Sounds-
This game gets by on graphics for two reasons: It came out in 1997 and it's a sports gae from EA. Nothing personal, but EA, until recently, hasn't cared much about graphics in their sports games. The graphics are a bit pixelated, but they still pass easily. They are pretty much sports game graphics. They're a year behind in graphics technology. It doesn't lead to any problems like in games like Gex 3. As for sound, it's just crowd cheers and odd noises. And the announcer, of course. The sound is fun to listen to and a cool part of the game. All these sounds have been done well and I thought the sound was quite good.
Playtime/ Replayability-
This game was meant to be replayed over and over. Then you get good and you can kill your friends in versus. Eventually it gets old though. The replay value is basically what makes this game the game.
Buy or Rent- Rent it. It's good, but it's old. If it were newer, I would recommend to buy it. Now you can get Winning 11, so what's the point of getting this( even if it is a good game)?
