Top Gear Rally
Review by JACKBUTTMOMMYS
"Arcade style racing comes home to the N64."
Game play- This game is probably the finest in arcade style racing I have ever played. It is easy, and you don’t have to let go of the gas, but it still gives a challenge to any age players. You may wonder why, and I will give you some reasons to elaborate with. Even though it has a really easy Championship mode, you can come up with better races, and new ideas in 2-player. Even though it does not have a mode editor, I, and many others, have come up with crazy ideas! Plus, racing a friend is harder then racing the system. That said this section deserves a fair seven. Final area score: 7/10
Graphics- While the car models are extremely unrealistic, you can fix this by using the car editor option. It is like a paint section on a computer, except you paint you very own car! And while sand will come under your tires when making a strong turn while you are on a nice concrete slab, does it really matter that much? Also, the background environments are extremely nice, with excellent detail for a N64 game. And although you can barley see the rain/snow falling (if you even can), the road will be nicely covered with this rain or thick snow. Final area score: 7/10
Sound- This area could have done much better. There are about seven songs in the entire soundtrack, and when sliding on mud, it sounds like gravel. The only reason this area gets a great score, is that the engine sounds may be nearly the same they were great for the time it came out. Final area score: 7/10
Replay ability- Even though you probably wont have a lot of hard times in Championship mode, it has tons of replay for the 2-player action. Cause if you both are really good, then you should have a tough time beating each other. Final area Score: 7/10
Final Recommendation- This game is most likely worth the dough. I got it for seven, and if you rented it, it would be near the same price. It has a great 2-player mode, a car editor, and even since the Championship mode may be a tad easy, it still gives you a challenge. And if you receive this as a gift, don’t return it, but better yet, invite the friend who you received it from for some great 2-player mayhem! Final area score: 7/10
