Blast Corps

Review by Harv

"It's amazing how such simplistic games can be so addictive."

A nuclear missile carrier was let loose somehow, and is slowly heading to a safe detention point. Your job is to control your incredibly large construction vehicles, robots, missile shooting tricycles, and for the most part, other non existent or non destruction related vehicles, and destroy everything in the warhead's path. If it happens to collide with a building or a dreaded pile of coloured blocks, it'll go BOOM! and bad things will happen.

Graphics-6

The graphics aren't really all that spectacular. The vehicles and buildings and such did look like what they were, but that's about it. The person you run around in is just a small green man with no noticeable detail.

The backgrounds, and levels in the game had a tendency to look very much alike, except a few which were entirely different, but for the most part the levels were quite bland, and similar.

Sound Effects/Music-7

The sound effects sound fine. I mean, it is a game were you drive around destroying stuff, so most buildings being destroyed usually have a glass shattering and crumbling noise, and really, that's all that's necessary. Vehicles engine's sound like engine's, and so on. The sound effects did there job, and that's all I care about. No complaints.

The music in this game is the epitome of generic. It isn't good, but it isn't horrible, also it's usually very subtle, so you likely won't notice it about 80% of the time anyway. So I have no real comment on the music other than it should win an award for being the most plain music ever.

Control-8

The control in this game is very good. With the exception of the ''Dumptruck of Doom'', and the Missile Shooting Tricycle, all the driving destruction vehicles are quite easy to use to destroy everything in your path.

As far as the racing cars go, they control decently as well. Any trouble you have is likely because of the insanely hard times to beat, rather than your car.

The robots in this game are usually easy to control, but sometimes they seem to refuse to work. The gymnastic robot in particular I find is hard to control sometimes. The rolling Robot is usually fairly obedient, and the flying robot works like a charm.

Gameplay-10

As far as Gameplay goes, this game is awesome. It's such a simple idea. Drive around destroying stuff, but you might play this game for months trying to get the top scores in the game, which I think isn't possible.

The game itself really isn't hard so much as it give you the above mentioned ''Dumptruck of Doom'' to destroy things often, and destroying things with it is difficult. You need to drive and swing around backwards and slide into building with your metal back to destroy a segment of a building, bouncy sphere, or what have you. I guarantee at least one time during the time you play this game, you will say or scream ''Why don't you use the bulldozer that blows buildings up on contact?''

In addition to killing buildings, you for whatever reason can race as well. These are usually difficult, but fun. They make you figure a strategy to do the race, and also make you search the track for shortcuts in you want to beat the time.

All in all, this game is hard, but very fun, and will keep you busy as long as you have patience.

Rent or Buy?

I would say buy this. It is addictive, and has a long life, not to mention it's dirt cheap now, so you might as well buy this. It's a great game, that I don't think got the recognition it deserves.
