Resident Evil 2
Review by napster
"Scary but lacking something..."
Now before you go and not finish reading this review i must say that this is a good game. I never got to play the Playstation version because of restrictions in my household so one summer i go against those restrictions and buy this game. Now i was visiting a relative in Detroit and I must say I wasn't expecting what i saw at first hand.. The game just scared me but being the freak that I was I just kept renting it and later bought it. I still play it and I find it fun and here's why.
Story: The story was very complex in this game it always had me guessing what was going to happen next. You play as either Claire Redfield (brother of Chris Redfield in first game) and Leon S. Kennedy (rookie cop at Raccoon Police Department.) Claire came to Raccoon City in search of her brother and soon began fighting for her life. Leon came to town and began to search for survivors seeing the bad happenings in the city. Their paths cross and they hop into a police car and run over zombies that get into their way. Introductions are made and Chris gives Claire a gun to help her to defend herself. A zombie surprises them and they crash..killing the zombie. Luckily they are alright but they have a problem..there is a semi truck coming right after them and is about to run right into them! They get out of the car and there is an explosion. Chris tells Claire to meet him at the Raccoon Police Department and she agrees. The game then starts here.
Gameplay: The gameplay was different and it took me some time to get used to, but then again this was the first time that I've ever gotten to get my hands on a Resident Evil game so it might have been the same. You press the R button to aim and the A button to shoot. Start is to open up the menus and you go from there. Gameplay was almost the same as ever. Ammo was never a problem because every time you turned around you found some handgun bullets, etc. Then you use those to mow down zombies or whatever gets in your way. I myself never had problems with bosses and if I did I'd try a different maneuver and defeat them.
Graphics: This is one of the games strongest points. The graphics are nice and colorful. The backgrounds are very well done and it really does look real good. The enemiese zombies, bosses, weapons, explosions, etc. all look great for a Nintendo 64 game.
Sound: The sound makes you feel like you're right there in Raccoon city. You can hear the creepy sounds of zombies' feet slowly shuffling toward you just before ripping your head open and the gunshots all sound real. Glass shattering sounds like real glass. This has got to be the game's STRONGEST point.
Replayability: Well to be honest there are a lot of stuff to do. There are two scenarios and meaning that if you hate Leon you will end up playing as him either way. And when you finish two scenarios with just the Claire/Leon combo or vice versa you will be eager to find out how it happened the other way adding on to hours of playtime. After that you will probably want to see how fast you can go threw the game without dying.
Final Verdict: There's no question about it....There is alot of replay value within this game which means if you want to get scared out of your mind you better go pick up this masterpiece right away. If you love survivor horror or is just a Resident Evil freak go pick this up right away you won't be disappointed. If you're not sure if you should buy it rent it this game is too good to ignore. Either way you will love this game.
