Hey You, Pikachu!
Review by All is Fair in Love and War
"I am Your Master Pikachu."
Introduction
Hey You Pikachu! is an awesomely stupendously awesome video game for any Pokemon lover, or you can just try it for fun. You will love how Pikachu responds to all kinds of different voice commands. This video game does not last very long though...
Anyway, on to the review for Hey You, Pikachu!
Game Play 9/10
This video game is extremely entertaining. It takes a lot of playing to get all the decorations and things, but that makes it a much better video game. You can actually go fishing in this video game! After you play Hey You Pikachu for a while, you can even go searching for treasure. It is pretty hard, too. Here are a few of the characters you will meet in Hey You, Pikachu!, and their characteristics. This is spoiler free, for mostly all of this stuff is in the instruction manual.
Pikachu
You will meet Pikachu for the very first time while you are in the Viridian Forest
Pikachu always listens to whatever you have to say, always communicates with you, and always plays with you
Professor Oak
Professor Oak is a Pokemon Researcher
Professor Oak recently invented the PokeHelper
Professor Oak has asked to use you as a test subject in his latest, greatest research project
Listen to Professor Oak’s advice, for he will give you many, many important hints
Mom
Mom is the main character’s mother
She talks to you right before you leave the house and right when you come back home
She loves Pikachu very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very much
She loves Pikachu almost as much as you love Pikachu
Bulbasaur
Bulbasaur is often found in Ochre Woods
Bulbasaur is known to hold picnics every once in a while
Squirtle
Squirtle can be seen in many different places
Squirtle gets along very well with Pikachu
Charmander
Charmander has a flame at the end of its tail
Charmander has a very, very, very, very, very powerful ember attack
Story Line 9/10
This story line is very, very simple. You find a wild Pikachu, you take it home with you, and you play with it. Professor Oak gives you a PokeHelper so you know how you and Pikachu are hitting it off. You can feed Pikachu a cupcake. (yummy, yummy, yummy in my tummy!) You can get items and all kinds of stuff like that. Then you get to do some extra special things. Do you see how very, very simple this very, very simple story line is? I told you that this very, very, simple story line is very, very simple.
Graphics and Animation 8/10
These are pretty good graphics for a 64-bit video game. They are also pretty good graphics for a simple 2D video game, too.
The animation is great other than the fact that you cannot see your arm when you throw something. That is the only thing missing in the animations.
Sound Effects and Music 10/10
The music in Hey You Pikachu! is top notch for a video game designed for the Nintendo 64.
The sound effects are really, really great! You can hear yourself picking up a carrot or some other vegetable or even a wooden sword. You can also hear it as it hits the ground. These are extremely detailed sound effects, especially considering this is a Nintendo 64 video game.
Controls 8/10
The controls are very easy to use, and work very well for this video game. You press and hold the Z button or the L button before you start talking to Pikachu. You release the Z button or the L button after you finish talking, and Pikachu will receive your message. You use the control stick to move around. If the hand is pointing to an item, you press B to get information about it. The controls are much too easy to be deserving of a 9 or a 10.
Play Time 8/10
It usually takes about a full month at the most to get all of the items and do everything in Hey You Pikachu!
Replay Value 4/10
This is really the worst part of Hey You Pikachu!. When you get everything and do everything in Hey You Pikachu! there really is not any point whatsoever at all in doing it all over again from the beginning.
Decorations 10/10
It is very hard to get all of the decorations in this video game. Most of the decorations you have to earn from doing things like baby - sitting a lot of Caterpie while the mommy Butterfree is gone, some others you can buy from Abra’s shop, and some others you can find by getting in beautiful fields of flowers.
Fun Factor 9/10
Hey You Pikachu! is a very fun video game once you get into playing it. There is so much different stuff to do! Pikachu responds to so many different voice commands. You can make him do just so, so many different things. If you tell Pikachu Electric XXX, Pikachu will be MAD!!! It is really, really, really funny! Some people are starting to get tired of hearing Pikachu yelling Pika, Pika Pika Pikachu all the time, though.
Cons and Pros
Cons
Very low replay value
Pros
Excellently drawn graphics and animation
Nicely done sound effects and music
Easy controls to use
Rent or Buy
I suggest you rent this video game, just to see if it is for you to play. If you do not like Pokemon, this game obviously is not the video game for you. If you bought it and did not like it, I suggest that you should do one of the following: A) sell it, B) give it away for free, C) throw it away to never play it again, D) Give it to your little brother or your little sister (if you have one), E) destroy it yourself, F) set it on fire.
I hope you do not set it on fire. That would be bad. That would be very, very bad indeed. You would need like, see one of those shrinks if you did something like that. Hey You Pikachu! has done absolutely nothing to you whatsoever to deserve to be set on fire.
