Mega Man 64
Review by Turbo Speed
"Capcom comes to the Nintendo 64!"
Every gamer knows about Mega Man. Well, at least any gamer who doesn't want to be made fun of. Mega Man was created by a company known today as Capcom, the creators of Resident Evil, Power Stone, Resident Evil, Gotcha Force, Metal Walker, and other numerous titles and games. Capcom created the very first Mega Man game on everyone's favorite retro system: the NES. After their first Mega Man title was a huge success, they released one after another titles of Mega Man and created different series of Mega Man, such as X, Legends, and Battle Network. But now, we have had Mega Man 64, a remake of Legends on the Nintendo 64.
Graphics 7/10
These graphics are a little flat and jagged, but I still liked this game. Some colors may be too bright and some too dark. Some shapes are well-detailed and some are completely bland and plain. The graphics are pretty much nothing special. The graphics seem to be the only downfall of the game.
Graphics 7/10
The graphics are pretty much okay with me.
Music and Sound 7/10
You won't notice the sound or music and I can't remember it so well, but it was on the average side. To decide this score, I used a long and scientific process. I was going to give this category a 6, but the dart didn't stick, so I threw it again.
The music is non-existent, but if it somehow shows up, it will sound pretty relaxing for a little. The game's music is almost not there at all. I don't know if music that almost doesn't exist is a good thing or not.
Music and Sound 7/10
The music and sound are okay in the long run, but these tunes won't be something you would want to burn on a CD and listen to.
Story 10/10
Mega Man ends up deserted on an island and needs to find a way to get off the island using energy refractors. While he's at it, he has to stop the Bonne pirates from making the island and the island inhabitants miserable. If Mega Man is lucky, he can encounter the ultimate energy source, the Mother Lode.
Story 10/10
The story seems original and I don't see anything seriously wrong with it.
Gameplay 9/10
The best reason to get this game is the Gameplay. Unlike other Mega Man console games, this is an RPG (role playing game) that you will love playing. Not an RPG where you stand around and wait for your turn to attack, but a Legend of Zelda style RPG. It will ring a bell when you play it.
There are dull enemies in the game to defeat, but they can be stronger later in the game. Some won't be stopped with just the Mega Buster (Mega Man's signature and copyright weapon) alone. That's why you have to venture into Sub-Ruins to find junk for your friend, Roll. Roll is a genius and can build weapons from junk you find. But sometimes, the junk won't be made into anything because Roll will need more and different junk. Can you find all the weapons?
Besides battling and customizing weapons, you are running through towns. You can buy things with zennys (currency in Mega Man's world) to help you on the adventure, such as healing items and such. That's pretty much all there is to the gameplay of this game.
Gameplay 9/10
The gameplay is alright with me and you could begin to like it very much if you are a fan of RPGs similar to the Legend of Zelda. If you are a Legend of Zelda fan, you might want to stop asking questions like an idiot and buy this game ASAP.
Replay Value: Moderate
You can still search for new equipment in the Sub-ruins (the game dungeons) to take to Mega Man's friend, Roll, to make new equipment and weapons to fight with or upgrade them to shoot more accurately, shoot farther, carry more ammo and many other things. This can make fights easier and you can get more zennys to get more upgrades. If you get the highest of the upgrades, you can max out your weapons to have the best stats they can have.
Buy or Rent?
You should probably rent this game first and if you're satisfied, buy it afterwards. The game is fun to play for awhile, but the thrills won't last forever. If you're a hardcore Mega Man fan, what are you waiting for? Get out there and just buy it now!
