NASCAR 2000
Review by nick mi
"Not the greatest of games, unless you like driving around a track non-stop."
I got this game for Christmas one year from a dear friend, who really enjoys racing. I liked racing to an extent and I did not want to hurt his feelings so I played it. I have probably logged in about 15 hours in the game TOTAL! It is not that I hate racing, it is just that it is so boring! Even my dad who is a NASCAR NUT did not like this game.
Gameplay: 1/10
Horrible! It does not even handle like a real car, except that your car tends to breakdown upon even the smallest bump! You basically have to race, other cars(duh). You get to pick your driver then play a type of mode. There is season, practice, tournament, and exhibition. You then have to go around a track as many as 200 laps(At least two and a half hours). Now you are not only playing a game that does not play well, you are abusing your joystick, as it is all ways being turned to the right! The only value I get out of this game is trying to wreck my opponents and being the only one left racing. So far I have taken out 7 cars, before my car was totaled. Did I mention that if you go backwards and crash, you would be more excited smashing hot-wheels together?
Sound:3/10
The sound effects are below average. The announcer does not even entertain you or make jokes like in some other sports game. They are dull and tell you the bare facts that you can see on your own. The sounds of the race track are not that great, as they do not tell the different sounds very clearly. The music is average, I tended to turn on the stereo when played this game.
Storyline: */10
There is no storyline, it is just a plain sports game. Race, race, and race some more and try to become perfect, while racing other people and win the nascar championship! There is no ending, just repetitive tracks.
Replay value:5/10
It really depends on how you get your kicks. If you like racing, then this will have replay value until you die.(Or buy a better racing game.) If you don't, it will be a trial play and then never played again.
Graphics: 3/10
This is really bad for the N64, especially how long the 64 had been out when this was released. It is to blocky.
Difficulty:6/10
Winning a race can be hard. The computer does not make a mistake, however, you can make a mistake. We are human, so after 50 laps, you are most likely going to make a mistake, and have to either take an unnecessary pit, or crash, possibly ruining any hope you had for winning that race.
Overall: 2/10
Not a very satisfying game. I know it is the thought that counts, but I wish my friend had given me something else instead. I really got very little enjoyment from this game.
Buy or Rent: Rent it if you REALLY have your heart set on it. Then if you really are one of those people who like it, by the game.
