Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero
Review by Lord Magus2002
"This is actually a good game"
Not for many people maybe, but it was quite a blast for me. This is not your typical MK game. It's more of an adventure game were you go through different stages on Sub-Zero's quest. Of course, it still has the trademark violence and battles of the MK series.
Story (8/10):
The story is good enough. Quan Chi comes to the Lin Kuei to ask them the favor of getting the map of the 4 elements: Wind, water, earth and fire. Sub-Zero decides to do it, and his quest begins. But, little did he know, Quan Chi had other plans...
Graphics (7/10):
The graphics are ok, pretty much the same from the MK games, only with a 3-D touch. The mini bosses for example, were 3-D looking. The cut-scenes, which are pictures with text, fit the game perfectly.
Gameplay (7/10):
The game is hard to handle at first. Something everyone hated was that you had to use the B button to turn around. That was a little annoying, but you get used to it after a while. The jumps you have to do are very tricky. You must jump the right second if you don't wanna die. I liked that actually, it gave a good challenge. The more you advance through the game, you get all of Sub-Zero's skills. First the ice blast, the slide and so on. There are lots of skills to keep things fun. There are also items that you find, that serve for healing, making you invincible for moments, invisible for others...etc (You pick em up with the A button)
Sound/music (7/10):
It's good. The sounds of the kicks and punches and screams are very similar to those from the earlier MK games. The music just fits the stages and fights. Nothing much to say.
Fun Factor/challenge (9/10):
The game is very fun and VERY challenging. It's one of those games where you get stuck for weeks in a stage, and you throw your controller over the TV in frustration :)
The game has some puzzles that are tricky, and that keep you playing for hours just to try to solve them. Anyway, that makes the game good.
Replay Value (6/10):
There's no replay value, once you finish the game, that's it. Although I think you can get a slightly different ending, but I don't remember well. Anyway, if you let the game rest for some time and try it again, it's all fun again.
Rent or Buy?
I rented it first, bought it later. That's the best thing to do. This game offers a big challenge, so if your looking for one, I recommend it.
