Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Review by Mega Man 5
"The Third Tony Hawk game makes it to N64."
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is the last Tony Hawk game for the N64. It is also the last N64 game. Is it good? Or is bad? Read on to find out.
Graphics: 10/10
The graphics here easily beat the PS1 version. They have been pumped up from 32-Bit to 64-Bit. Plus, the N64 version supports the Expansion Pak. When the Expansion Pak is used, the graphics are a little better than before (I think the resolution is a little better when it's used). Also, unlike the PS1 version, the framerate N64 version drops in some areas, but it rarely happens (Mostly happens when stuff there is alot of stuff on the screen at once). Most of the slowdown is fixed when the Expansion Pak and and the game stays at the normal 30-frames per second.
Play Control: 10/10
Good Play Control. The Control Stick is also supported. The Rumble Pak is also supported, and it has a pretty good amount of rumbling
Music: 6/10
The music is good. Songs featured are from Alient-Ant Farm, Motor Head, The Ramones and more. Unlike the PS1 version, the N64 version here has 6 songs and the PS1 version had 12 songs. Also, some parts of the songs have been cut. But they still last a while, and most of the songs are here. What is here in the N64 version is in CD-Quality sound and sounds exactly the same as in the PS1 version. Crystal clear lyrics, drums and all the other instruments. I didn't really like Track 5, though.
Sound Effects: 10/10
The sounds have been toned down a bit, so they are not as high quality as the PS1 version. They do, however, still sound like real skateboard sounds.
Plot: 5/10
There isn't really any plot in Tony Hawk games. You skate around, complete goals, unlock levels and more. You don't go on an adventure or quest and bring peace to the world or anything.
Game Play: 10/10
Oh yeah! This is the best part. There is a TON of stuff you can do. First, there are 3 modes: Career, Single Session and Free Skate. In the Career Mode, you have 2 minutes to complete goals like getting a high score, Pro Score, Finding a Secret Tape, getting Stat Points and more. Complete goals to unlock new levels, based on real-life skate parks. Single Session has a time limit like the Career Mode, except here, you do the best run you can by scoring lots of points. Free Skate. It's just that, Free Skate. In Free Skate, you can practice in levels you have unlocked without a time limit, so you can skate around as long as you like. There are 12 Skaters like Tony Hawk, Kareem Campbell, and more. Plus, there are several hidden skaters. You can increase each skaters stats by collecting Stat Points, like Hang Time, Grinding, Air, Rail Balance and more. And there's more. You can create your own skater! You can create up to 3 skaters. You can name that skater any name you want, choose his age, choose the color of his hair, change the color of his shirt, change the color of his pants, choose his weight and much more! Next, there's a Skatepark Editor. Here, you can choose from 145 skatepark stuff. These include rails, ramps, pools, fun boxes and more. Also, you can choose from 4 park Themes which include, Industrial, Cathedral, outdoor and more. Or, if you don't feel like making your own park, you can play 50 Pre-Made parks! And that's still not all! You can use cheats! You'll have to find out what they are yourself, but I will tell you that there are more than 10, and they are pretty cool (Some of them look kind of funny too)!
