007: The World is Not Enough
Review by SpacePirate
"Good, but not Goldeneye"
The movie, The World Is Not Enough, came out in 1999. Though it wasn't as good as previous Bond movies, it still was an enjoyable game. In the year 2000, the World is Not Enough game came out for the Playstation and Nintendo 64. The N64 version was a better game than the PS1 version but it still couldn't top the legendary Goldeneye game. I'm a huge 007 fan. I've got the DVDs and the games and I can easily say that The World Is Not Enough is one of the best Bond games to come out yet. Even though it's not made by Rare, the developers of Goldeneye, it's still a awesome game. It has a great single player game and addicting multiplayer games. There are some flaws, but they don't stop this game from being one of the best Bond games ever.
Graphics-9/10
The graphics are pretty nice. There's lots of good animation. They aren't as clear as Goldeneye's graphics but they're still nice. The enemies do tend to look alike. In Goldneye, there was a variety of faces but TWINE's a different story. They all appear to be the same. So, that's a problem. The animation is nicely detailed and you can see objects from far away which is nice. The weapons look great and the environments are great. So, overall, the graphics are awesome. They might not be as clear as Goldeneye and the faces don't have much of a variety but everything else looks good.
Sound/Music-8/10
The one thing that boosts the score up in this category is the voice acting. That's right, there's voice acting. Voice acting in a N64 game!! I love that they included that in this small little cartridge. It's a major improvement over Goldeneye. In Goldeneye, you had to read text that appeared on the screen which was a problem because reading something a the top of a TV screen while shooting eighteen soldiers is hard. Most of the sound effects sound good. Some of the sound effects sound stale and unrealistic but most of the sound effects are good. The biggest problem of this game has to be the music. The music in Goldeneye was amazing. Cool versions of classic 007 tunes. TWINE has some good music but they're not all good. I don't even think they have the classic Bond music. You know, the main theme! I don't remember hearing it and that lowers the score! So, I have some mixed feelings with the Sound and Music but overall they aren't that bad.
Story-8/10
The story follows the movie. A nuclear warhead has been stolen and it's up to Bond to stop a catastrophic nuclear attack. There are twists in the story but I won't spoil anything for the people who haven't seen the movie.
Gameplay-9/10
Like in Goldeneye, TWINE follows the story of the movie through missions. Before each mission, you are briefed by M, R, and Robinson. The missions vary from run-and-gun action, stealth, swimming, skiing, and even... escort missions. I hate escort missions. But unlike Goldeneye's escort missions, the person your escorting does not fend for herself. She has to get herself a gun! The stealth missions are good. And the goggles you get really help you through the missions. They've taken out the cool throwing knifes and given you the ability of putting a silencer on your P2K. That brings up another new feature. Your guns have secondary functions. You can put a silencer on your P2K, use a laser on your magnum, and even turn burst fire to auto on other guns.
These secondary functions really help in certain situations. The stealth missions can get really tense. You have to avoid plenty of things like cameras, guards and sometimes you can't kill some guards. They can get pretty tough. The skiing mission is pretty fun but trying to shoot things including the barrels that blow up the towers your supposed to destroy is a bit hard. But a mission I kind of hated was the swimming one. It's pretty hard to travel through the doors while swimming. But it's a good idea that almost succeeds. The level design is great. Huge levels with lots of things to interact with. The objectives are also fun and there are lots of them. That brings up a problem. Some of the objectives are a bit confusing. In one mission you have to pursue an assassin without killing her and I got to the end of the level and I failed and I didn't even kill her. Some other ones I didn't know what to do.
The controls are almost exactly like Goldeneyes. The only difference is that you can crouch and jump. They replaced the C up and down buttons with the jump and crouch commands. The crouching's good but the jumping doesn't come in a of of use. And I kind of liked looking up and down without bring up the cross-hairs. I like a lot of the weapons and gadgets. The best one has to be the watch. It has four functions, darts that are great on stealth missions, a laser to cut things with, a stunner to incapacitate enemies, and a grapple to get you through tight spots. The multiplayer's great. It's very fun and addicting. Sure, Goldeneye may be a longer and more fun game but The World Is Not Enough is still a very enjoyable game. This game deserves a high gameplay rating!!
Difficulty-10/10
Like Goldeneye there are three difficulty levels, Agent, Secret Agent, and 00 Agent, Agent being the easiest, 00 Agent being the hardest. So, the difficulty varies and that's good!!
Replay Value-10/10
There's a lot of replay value going for this game. Since there's variety in the game, you can play it a lot. And since there's three difficulty levels, you'll be playing for a while. The multiplayer is also real fun. Of course, if you don't have any friends (that's real sad) and you're forced to play with enemy bots, you're not gonna have to much fun and you have to only rely on the single player game and that'll lower your replay value. But if you DO have friends then there's tons of replay value for this sucker.
