NFL Blitz

"Football's version of NBA Jam"

NFL Blitz is an over the top football game that follows no rules or regulations. Everything goes from pass interference to late hits. It is not your average football sim, it is designed to be pure fun and excitement.
Blitz features most of the current NFL teams and teams play 7 on 7. Marquee players from all the teams are present in the game. There are a few plays to choose from, but the lack of play selections can be overlooked due to the create a play mode.
In the create a play mode, you first select the formation and then assign routes to your recievers. These routes aren't pre-set like Madden 99. You can make the recievers go wherever you want. Want to make them run around in circles? Done. Want to have them run back and forth all the time? Done. Its up to you. This mode enhances the gaming experience that much more.
The gameplay is a lot of fun. You can do just about anything. I had designed a perfect play in which one of my recievers would always be open. But my friend always used to go up to the reciever and as soon as I snapped the ball, he would hit him, thus messing up my play. Once you tackle a guy, you can keep hitting him afterwards.
Overall, Blitz is just like NBA Jam. It will entertain for a while, but will lose its charm eventually.

Graphics: 7.
Graphics are decent. The action is outrageous and the graphics portray it nicely.

Sound: 7.
Sound is decent, especially the hitting effects.

Gameplay: 8.
You throw the ball in the direction you are running. This is different from most football games. Also, sometimes it seems the defense is too strong as sacks are frequent.

Replay Value: 8.
The game tracks user stats in different categories and thus playing against a friend to get better stats is fun.

Overall: 7.
This is a fun game, but for true football fans, Madden will appeal more.
