"Mythologies is a blast! (ice, that is)"

Mortal Kombat is a classic fighter series that has spawned arguably the best video game to movie film ever! In fact, it was so popular it got a sequel. Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is the first game in the series to break the rule of being a traditional fighter game and is of the adventure/fighter genre.

Gameplay: As the title suggests, you play as Sub-Zero and only Sub-Zero throughout the entire game. Though this may discourage some fans of the MK series, Sub-Zero has better and more moves in this game than he does in any other MK game. Over the course of the game you gain points by defeating enemies, which are then used to gain new special ice moves. Even though you only get to play as Sub-Zero, you will meet up with some old MK favorites. The game is in 2-D and you run across the screen fighting enemies as you go. There are 8 levels total, four of which are based on the elements wind, earth, water, and fire, and at the end of most is a boss fight. The controls of this game are different from any other MK game, but with practice you will be able to pull off any of Sub-Zero's many moves. The game uses a password system, once you beat the level, you remember the password to the next.

Story: Quan Chi manipulates Sub-Zero into getting him a powerful amulet that he can use to dominate the entire world, or something to that effect. To be honest, the story of the game is somewhat important, but it does not play a crucial role in enjoying the game.

Graphics/Sound: The graphics of the game are pretty good. They're not as good as Mortal Kombat 4, but better than Mortal Kombat: Trilogy. The backgrounds of the game are very detailed and look great. As for the sound, it's okay. The sounds are good, as is the background music, but there's nothing special about it.

Playtime/Replayability: Unfortunately, Mythologies is on the short side. It's also pretty easy, once you get the hang of it. There's no real reason to play the game once you beat it, except for fun, of course.

Final Recommendation: This game is mainly for hard-core fans of the Mortal Kombat series, though others may still enjoy it. I was a bit disappointed with it at first, but over time I grew to like it, probably because Sub-Zero is one of my favorite MK characters. I suggest you rent this first before going out to buy it.
