"Mortal Kombat wannabe...in 3D"
Any hardcore fighting fan nows that the 90's brought a ton of cheap bloodey fighters, and midway was the worest offender of this. When Mortal Kombat recieved as much hype as it did, kids of all ages went running to the arcades, quaters in hand, waiting to challenge and literally chop thier oppents heads off. Mortal Kombat had recieved so much hype that by the 3rd release of the series, midway and already released other fighter games with "the blood". Wars gods came out abit before MK3 made it's debut in the arcades. It's was in 3D, had the blood and fatalities that mk fans loved so, an so-so adverage storyline with digitalized actors posing and doing the moves (much like MK).. It had its few moments of glory, but it quickly faded away, but not before playstation and N64 got thier own home verisions. So how do they square out?.. read on and find out.......
Sounds:9: I wanted to start with sounds first, because I was very impressed at how loud clear and crisp the sound effects, announcer and music were for a cart game. Compared to the arcade and playstation verision, there is not much difference with sound save "very few" missing sounds ro voices, everything else seemed intact here.
Gameplay:7: Okay I have played and own both verisions of this game, one on PS the other N64, outta the 2, playstations verision was alot easier to control, but that is not to say the N64's controller was'nt without its charm, moves and fatalities were pretty much easy to pull off on both verisons.
Graphix:8: The graphics and backgrounds were pleasent enough and seemed to be intact as the arcade and playstation verisions, the characters were just "alittle" bit blockey, and not as bright in colors as the other verisions, but still gets the job done.
Extras: The boss is hard as hell to defeat, but alot easier to beat the sub-boos and boss boss on this verisions rather then PS. There are a few cheat codes you can put in, you may have to do this to cause the COMP oppenents can be REALLY cheap sometimes on even the lowest levels.
Overall: War god is not without it's charm, it can be fun to play the first few days of owning it, but eventually it will end up on your shelf collecting dust, the N64's version seems to be easier to find the the playstation verision of this game, but either way, if your a hardcore, blood thristy MK fan, this would probably be a game you may enjoy, worth the buy at no more then 6 to 8 bucks.
