Goemon's Great Adventure

"This is one of my favorite games ever!"

Me and my friend just played this game the other day, after about 3 years of leaving it in a box, we finally got it out to play. and to this day, it still remains my favorite game ever!

Gameplay: 10/10
It's so simple, yet so effective. I couldn't believe how fun and challenging such a simple idea could provide me. this game is 3D in a 2D world. There's your simple jump button, attack button, and ranged attack weapon (which uses up your coins). Enemies change as the day changes, so during night the enemies are stronger, but give you more coins than if you were to fight a daytime monster. The action is ALWAYS smooth, and the amount of character you can interact with (even outside of towns) is amazing for this type of game. Multiplayer is extremely fun as well, and you get to piggyback ride in addition to the original set of moves. there are other gameplay features, such as horse riding, swimming, and everything you can imagine in a platformer. You can play with 2 characters, or even more later on....

the mech battles are also something to behold. they are extremely fun to play, and with a partner, it's even better. different combos can be used with your giant robot, and they all help you in battle.

Graphics 9.8/10
The design in the game is near perfect, and the art style makes this game a masterpiece. Its pretty much simple geometry and textures, but all the environments differ and have their own unique look. Plus, the framerate almost never falls. The burning castle stage on the first level is a prime example of a graphical masterpiece. overall, basically nothing wrong with the graphics.

Story 10/10
Extremely funny, with a good twist in the story. the dialogue between all the characters move the story on and give little hints as to what should be done next.

Sound 9.5/10
with all the grunts and sword effects of regular platformers, this game also has some of the more catchier tunes in a video game. i find myself humming them as i play a level. it has japanese influenced background music that fits the situation perfectly almost all the time. the only thing bad is that some of the voice parts are re-used in certain cutscenes, but they are still used very cleverly.

Theres nothing more i can say other than BUY THIS GAME. it is one of the best games on N64, and even compared to the next gen systems. The fun factor in this game is great, and with 44 entry passes to find, this game can take about 30 hours to complete. me and my friend play this game for 2 hours straight, and at no point was it dull. Goemon's Great Adventure is my favorite game until they make another one like this.
