Donkey Kong 64
Review by gummy
"More fun than you can poke a banana at!"
Wow! This game is really fantastic! As well as extremely humorous. There are five gorillas who's names are Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Lanky Kong, Tiny Kong and Chunky Kong who all live on a peaceful little island and basically live on bananas and are in eternal peace until one day a bunch of thick and evil crocodiles come along with a perilous plot...
STORY 10/10
This game's story is hilarious! It starts off with the camera filming Donkey Kong Isle then it films K.Rool's ship coming towards the place it goes inside showing K.Rool muttering to himself about some disastrously evil plot to destroy Donkey Kong's island, hoping to kill Donkey Kong and his '' petty '' little friends (e.g Diddy Kong). But then the ship's pilots have an argument on which way to turn and then K.Rool's ship crashes into an enormous rock (stone, boulder call it what you like). And the big machine gun type thing shuts down so that gives Donkey Kong valuable time to destroy the big machine gun type thing. But no! K.Rool tells his thick and mindless little drones/ minions to steal poor old Donkey Kong's all so precious golden banana horde in hope of setting up a very clever and fiendish diversion so K.Rool's thick and mindless little drones/ minions have time to fix K.Rool's big machine gun type thing. But no! K.Rool's thick and mindless little drones/ minions were thick enough to park the gigantic ship thing that looks like an enormous version of K.Rool himself right in front of Donkey Kong's peaceful little island and since K.Rool's ship looks like a gigantic version of himself Donkey Kong would work out what is going on quicker than he can eat a banana. Sound like a long story? Well it is.
GRAPHICS 10/10
The expansion pack requirement says it all! These graphics take Nintendo 64's graphics to it's higher levels. The sunset effect on the water in Gloomy Galleon is simple eye candy. The crystals shining in Crystal Caves is amazingly beautiful. The rain pouring on the water in Creepy Castle is so realistic. The sand blowing around in Angry Aztec makes it one thousand per cent more beautifully realistic. While the attack you use against Mad Jack is extremely well blended in with the scenery and background. We could go on forever about the amazing things in this game. It is just, nobody really wants to.
MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS 10/10
Yet another ten across the board. The music is amazing quality and the thing that makes it one of the most outstanding achievements by any video game producer is that neither the Nintendo 64 console nor the actual Donkey Kong 64 game pack require a sound chip! Fungi Forest has perfect music because at day it is like peaceful harmonic little village but at night it is the same tune just a few notes are altered just a tad to make it sound evil. Another good thing is the music is run on. The level where they really show that off is in Gloomy Galleon. Some music is harmonic (e.g Crystal Caves). Some music sounds like it is terror and evilness (e.g Hideout Helm). Some music is fast-paced (e.g Angry Aztec). While there is some indescribable music (e.g Frantic Factory). So the music variety is large and good and really deserves a ten or a twenty...
LENGTH AND RE-PLAYABILITY 10/10
This game is massive! Because there are so many items to collect some people say this is hard and frustrating but it would be harder if you only had to collect one thing in each level. You will find yourself playing this over and over again and since the game is so massive you forget where everything is so it seems fresh and new once again. And then the fun comes again and this will keep on happening until you die or grow out of video games (shame on you if you do).
FUN LEVELS 10/10
Fun fun fun for everyone! This game is so fun you will never want to take your eyes of this glorious game. Now I have heard about this game being filled with glitches, fifteen glitches in the first level alone. But all the people who complain about this think about this, if you made the game, imagine how many more glitches it would have. Also face it, no game is perfect about every game you play has one or two glitches. And besides sometimes you just have to do with what is there instead of complaining about what is not there or faults about what is.
RENT OR BUY?
BUY! Or expect it for your birthday or Christmas or some other special occasion. Renting is not an option because you will get so addicted to the game and then you have to return it or face a hefty late fee. And as everybody knows late fees grow every day at an increasingly annoying rate. Also nobody likes paying late fees because then the people at the shop scold you and ban you from their place and then you will never see the game again and have dreams about it and then wake up and cry. So just buy it!
CONCLUSION
This game is good and filled with glitches it may be but the length and fun should not give you any time to even think of the glitches.
