Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey
Review by Geek of Doom
"With friends, this is a lot of fun"
Wayne Gretzky is to hockey as Micheal Jordan is to basketball. As John Elway or Steve Young is to Football. He's the guy that you've heard of, even if you don't like the sport. And Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey is pretty fun in multiplayer.
Gameplay 7/10: Regular season type mode in one player. You progress up until the championship game. Nothing stand out. However, this game really shines in multiplayer. There's a great fight style, making checking, or striking, you opponent all the more tempting to do. Many a time, I'd just sit there, telling my friend to check me, or my friend telling me to check him, until we could have a fight.
Graphics: 7/10: Nothing superb, but par with Nintendo 64 games during the time period. There's a few nice touches, like the goal catching fire after goals. Makes things a bit more fun, but still, like above, nothing stand out or extraordinary for the time.
Sound 5/10: Didn't care for the music, but the most of the other sounds were bearable. The announcers, however, were great. They make some pretty funny comments, although they're somewhat repetitive. That's annoying, but not much else to complain about.
Controls 10/10: Very good. I enjoyed the controls and can find nothing to complain about. They fit perfectly. It's a very easy pick up and play game
Replay 8/10: Awesome. The single player isn't good, but you cannot kill the multiplayer. You can play it for hours on end, enjoying the fights and other little treats in the game. When I first got this game, my friend and I played it for several hours without a break. You could do the same and not think anything of it.
Buy or Rent? I'd say buy: Buy it. You'll have fun with it. By now, you can pick it up for a hell of a bargain. This can be played for hours on end, so by one or two nights with friends, you'll get your five or ten bucks worth out of this game.
