Mischief Makers

Review by Psychopulse

"Possibly the best 2D platformer of all time!"

Mischief Makers was a game that has blown almost every other 2D platform games away, and it's worth a rental if you're a fan of games like these. Read more to find out.

Plot: 10 So so plot, but a with little twist. Some empire wans to take over the universe, and Marina and Prof. Theo go to planet Clancer (not Cancer, Clancer.), were some of the good Clancers get turned into bad Clancers by joining the empire. More wacky stuff happens, but I don't want to spoil it. Oh, I almost forgot-Marina's Professor gets captured. And you have to save him-MORE THAN ONCE! You'll see what I mean when you play. Uh.........other wacky stuff happens, too, but I better not spoil it. Oh, yes, the plot is really unusual, because it's usually the cute people who get attacked and run for their lives, but some of them actually fight back! And some off them go to your side and fight, too!

Graphics: 9 Why, there is so much graphical flair that you'll be impressed by how the foregrounds and backgrounds look. But why did I give this this game a 9 on a game which is rated a 10? The Clancers. They were animated so badly, I could name at least 3 things wrong with them.
1. They are Shy-Guy ripoffs (Drop the mask and there you go!)
2. They look too sad (No, I'm not kidding! Notice how they hardly smile!)
3. They do stupid stuff from time to time.
Other than that, great graphics, especially when you're fighting the bosses.

Music/Sound: 9 The soundtrack is a little cutesy-cutesy, but the boss music (And a few other non-cute tracks)is so catchy, this will force you to turn up the volume (speakers with stereo sound and great bass beats are great for such a soundtrack.) all the way up (just make sure you're alone or with a few friends when you do this.)! And except for the Clancers (Sheesh, are they making me hate them or something?) and Prof. Theo's shouting of ''Help me, Marina!'' (Professor, stop getting captured so darn much!), the voices are great and well suited to the game.

Gameplay: 10 I can't even tell you how great this game is on gameplay! Some stages are tricky, but not hard, others make you want to play them over and over again (Even the bosses are worth playing again!). There's not a lot of puzzles to solve, but they are challenging in certain ways. The bosses aren't that hard to beat either, just laern what to do and which buttons to press and you got it. The game is too short and easy at first, but then there's the fact that you need to find gold gems and beat stages under certain times and you'll learn the game is longer than normal.

Controls: 10 This is possibly the only game where you don't use the control stick. You just use the control pad instead. Also, instead of punching and kicking, you throw, shake, and grab people or other objects. It feels different from every other game, but it's fun.

Replayability: 10 You'll be playing this game a lot, and fighting the bosses are fun, even after you beat them. Throwing the cute out them just makes you laugh uncontrollably. You can even throw around people who aren't your enemies!

Rent or Buy: Like I said, it's really worth a rental, but if you just can't help yourself playing it so much, this is a must add to your N64 collection.

Overall: 10 Buy this game and start tossing the cute out of those Clancers!
