All-Star Baseball 2000

"All Star Baseball 2000 Hits A Triple!"
Now, I'm not a huge fan of Sports games, but All Star Baseball 2000 is fun for just about anyone!!
Gameplay: 9/10
Fantastic gameplay!! You have several modes to choose from when you start playing. You can do season, which is the best mode. In season you pick six teams and bring them all the way through a regular baseball season and try to win the ultimate game...the world series. You can do Free play, where you play a regular team vs. team game, which is fun when your bored and need something to do for about a half an hour. There's Home Run Derby, in which you try to hit as many home runs as possible(duh!). There's Multiplayer, in which you can play with up to three friends either on a team, or against each other. For the most part the stats of the teams and players are very detailed. In season mode you can look at the team standings any time you want, and you can trade players. There's plenty more to do, the fun really never stops. I only have minor problems with the gameplay though. Multiplayer gets very confusing when your on the same team with whoever your playing. You are never told who's up to bat, or who's controlling who which makes it almost impossible to play like that. Another problem is that you must have the N64 Controller Pack in order to save a season, and it takes up tons of space. Other than that, the gameplay is great!
Graphics: 7/10
The stadiums are very sharp, and realistic looking. You can see how they are based on the real stadiums. The players are so-so. They don't have that many facial expressions, and kind of look blocky at some points in the game. The worst part of the graphics though is all the glitches you'll run in to. Players will look as though they transport from one space to another, then disappear in thin air. Even though it's the N64, the players in the stands don't look as detailed as they could have been. The graphics are alright.
Sound: 7/10
Soundwise, it's like the graphics. The stadium sounds are realistic, smacking a ball sounds like smacking a ball. The crowds in the background will cheer when the home team hits a home run, which adds to the overall experience. The bad part about the audio is the announcers. They get very repetitive very fast. Each announcer only has about ten different phrases that they keep saying over and over again. Sometimes they will fall behind to and need to catch up with themselves.
Controls: 8/10
This is when The four C buttons on the N64 controller come in handy, because they are set up like a baseball diamond, which makes it a whole lot easier to know who your throwing the ball to. Hitting also has nice controls. The A button seems to be used for too much though.
Rent or Buy?
If your a fan of baseball, and want a good baseball game on the N64, then I would by this game. If an N64 is all you got, and you just want a nice, fun rental, then you should rent this game, even if your not a baseball fan.
Overall:
Pros:
-Awesome Player and Team stats
-Detailed Stadiums
-Fun Season Mode
-Realistic stadium sounds
-The game doesn't ever really get old
Cons:
*Lots of graphical glitches
*Repetitive announcers
*Lots of space on controller pack
