Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey, Jr.
Review by cloudyration
"Hi This Is Ken Griffey Jr Let's Play Major League Baseball...."
Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey, Jr. is by far the best baseball game for the Nintendo 64 and in my opinion and helped paved the way for today's other great baseball titles. I assume that you are contemplating picking this game up so I'll tell you why you should check this game out.
This games graphics aren't anything flashy like Ocarina of Time or anything like that but they are still quite good for Nintendo 64 standards. The players in the game have blocky faces but other than that I can't think of anything to bad. The fans are 2-D but the stadiums are very good, I think that Nintendo did a great job making them as well as the smoothness of the character animations in the swinging and running ect. I would give this aspect of the game 8/10.
Now the thing I can't stand about a lot of the newer games such as MVP baseball is that the announcers can really get on your nerves, but in this game the announcer is not commenting on every little thing. He only talks during when a new batter comes up and the umpires will call the count and the outs. The fans play a good role to by hearing the sound of the fans chattering in the distance and you can hear guys yelling Hot Dog and things like that, once in a while you might even hear an airplane fly over the game. I give the sound an 8.5/10
This is where the game delivers hands down is the gameplay, because you can jump right in and just play the game easily. It is rather easy to get into but once you play for a while and get the hang of it, everything comes natural when it comes to batting, fielding, pitching and throwing the ball from each base. The baseball diamond is represented by the C-buttons c down is home, c right is 1st base, c up is 2nd base and lastly c left obviously being 3rd base. The extra modes in this game only add to the life span. Feel like you're up for managing a team all the way to the World Series? Then you can by either having a fantasy draft or just by playing with the regular team and making trades along the way if you feel you need to. Feel like jumping right into the World Series? No problem. Or you can always just hit the long ball in the Home Run Derby. As always you can play exhibition games along with a buddy if you wish. I give it a 10/10
If you happen to own a N64 and are looking for a baseball game, I recommend this game. I would differently buy it because you can probably pick it up for a really cheap price probably 5 dollars and believe me it is worth it.
