Perfect Dark
Review by PeTeRL90
"Quite possibly one of the best FPS's ever."
First came Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64. This was a huge breakthrough game, and everyone enjoyed it. Then came word of a game called Perfect Dark. No one thought it would be able to match up to Goldeneye. At that time, Goldeneye was the kind of FPS's, and let alone, king of the Nintendo 64. Then Perfect Dark came out. People had a new love in their lives.
I remember when Perfect Dark came out... this game was so hyped up, everyone wanted a piece of it, especially me, and when it came out, it didn't disappoint. It lived up to most peoples, if not everyone's, expectations. This game was truely a blessing to Nintendo fans.
The graphics in this game are top notch. I'm comparing this to the Nintendo 64 days, and back then, this was highly advanced in the graphics department. The characters were nicely designed, as were the environments. The guns looked nice when you were holding them. Even the little things, like tables, were all nicely done. Sure, there were a few glitchy things every now and then, but what game doesn't have them?

The sounds of the game... oh man, they really did an excellent job on the sound effects and music in the game. The music in the game was perfect for the current setting you were in. If you were in the middle of a huge shootout with several guards, fast paced, up-beat music started up. It really got the blood going, getting you into the game. And if you were in a small hallyway, quiet music would play as you look around for a way out. The bullset sounds were top notch back then, and again, even the smaller things, such as windows breaking, were done very very nicely.

Oh my god... what is there to say about the Gameplay. The Gameplay was by far the best ever in any FPS. The single player mode alone took several months to complete. Each level, like Goldeneye, has three difficulty levels, butt the difficulty levels are harder than Goldeneyes. In the toughest difficulty level, you would have to utilize strategy as well as accuracy to get your way through a level alive. As well as conserve ammo. It was a mix of action and strategy for the higher difficulty settings. Even some of the objectives themselves were hard enough as it was. There were a few secret levels, and tons of cheats to unlock, making you need to play through the single player missions again and again trying to get everything.
And I can't forget about the multiplayer aspect. This was byfar the best part of Perfect Dark for me. The multiplayer. You didn't need any friends to play with, and you could make several different scenarios with weapons, game options, and so on. Hell, I still even play the multiplayer option as of today. If you can get over 10,000 kills in the multiplayer aspect of the game, and still not be bored, then you know you have a real winner on your hands. And besides, you have 30 challenges to do in Multiplayer, most of which are extremely tough. No matter what you classify yourself as, you need excellent skills, excellent accuracy, and excellent strategy if you wish to complete EVERYTHING in this game, and I mean EVERYTHING. This game will take you several years to beat.
GAMEPLAY: 10/10
The replay value. Oh man there was a lot of it in this game. Going through the single player mode to beat every difficulty level and unlock every cheat was a challenge in itself, and it takes a long time to do it. Hardcore fans of the game would waste nights away trying to beat a certain mission on the highest difficulty level. That's how hard this game is. And besides, how can you not play it again just for the multiplayer?
Playing this game again for the Multiplayer was just a mustdo. Especially if you could find a few friends to play with. I remember spending the night at my friends house on several occasions when I was younger, we would stay up all night playing this game, until the sun came up. That's how addicting this game was and we always came back for more just to do the multiplayer section. Not the challenges of the multiplyaer, but just to play the multiplayer aspect/
REPLAY VALUE: 10/10
Overall, this is, personally to me, the best FPS that has been ever created, and one of my favorite games still today. I never get bored with this game, and I feel bad for the people that missed out on this game. You missed out on a huge blessing to the gaming world. If you don't have this game, and are looking for a copy of it, good luck. I highly doubt you'll be able to find a copy lying around anywhere since people eat up any copy they can find. That's how good this game is.
